The footsteps are very erratic I find. Sometimes they work perfectly (When I was tracking down the Porygon it was perfect) Other times all 9 near by 'mons are 3 steps away, yet they appear next to me! Edited by arwen

Some of the 3 footstep pokemon seem to be 'ghosts' and not actually there / anywhere. A reload of the app sometimes gets rid of them, other times they seem to be 'stuck' serverside. Understandable given the server load issues they are having. OTOH if you get one to go down to two steps, it really is there and you can triangulate it.

Haha, I dusted off my old 13,000mAh battery from the Ingress days, too :p

Yeah, if you just "minimise" the app (I have no idea what it's referred to as on Android, you know what I'm on about, closing it but keeping it in memory) and then open it back up a little while later, it appears to be working, but isn't. Your character will walk around as you do, but time won't update, what's nearby doesn't change, and no pokemon will ever appear, until you force close it and relaunch.

I was doing that with the Pidgeot.

I think I worked out it was inside an industrial estate... which has "no trespassing" signs. :(

And Jynx was in a bit of wildlands in the park near me. It's all fenced off, so you can't go in.

Currently have a magnemite near me, damn being stuck at work!

Jynx and Seal, here.

But I'm tired and need a shower...

Also, this is new...

hmm maybe that's what was going wrong when I tried this at the weekend. Walked for about 40 minutes and never got any pokemon pop up despite it saying there were some "nearby". Also the stop's did nothing as well (click on them and the blue circle stayed blank forever).

Do you have to click on the pokemon button on the bottom right and select one to search for?

Not to my knowledge, I assume it's just a quicker way to track your progress. If you select one in the bottom right, it replaces the silhouette of nearest 3 the pokemon with the one you selected, and the footsteps. So my assumption is it's to "track" that one specific breed

Thanks that's what I thought but as it didn't seem to do anything no matter what I pressed I didn't know if I had missed something.

Got it installed on both my boy's phones now as well and they are actually looking forward to going out for a walk tonight!!! Normally I have to bribe them to come walking and even then they moan the whole way.

Also funny story, the Squirtle I got at the start was caught from my other half's cleavage.

Only if you successfully do it and they find out. If you fail to do it, there's no penalty.

Assuming it's built on the same engine as Ingress, if you turn on 'Mock locations' in your phone, the app refuses to run. So you don't actually spoof anything. From what I learned off Ingress players you need a rooted phone and third-party apps to spoof your location, which apparently (as I never tried) works.

I used to design GPS modules/software for mobile phones so have quite a few tools for messing with them. Using mock locations this game will still run and it puts you were you set the location to but it removes everything (gyms, stops, etc). I didn't try any other method as I didn't really want to cheat so much as just see if it worked at all (after 40 minutes of walking around staring at my phone and randomly crisscrossing roads to find pokemon :) ).

Downloaded it this morning before work, but haven't been able to do anything all day. Put my name in, selected squirtle, see a couple of Pokemon was near me.... that is it, cant load it up at all (every time I go in or out the office I have clicked retry / re-opened the app). Nothing as of yet. Making sure my phone is fully charged before I take the dog out tonight, walk him round a lake and a load of fields so hoping my battery holds up as it sucks at the best of times. I just want to get a heads up on my friends that will download it probably when it officially comes out ha ha.

That's.. actually pretty cool!

I haven't turned mock locations on, I just assumed you'd get the same error that you got if you tried it in Ingress, telling you to turn it off. Spoofing takes all the fun out of it.

Not a filtering issue inside the school?

No on data.

Knowing my luck I wont be able to get on until they have all downloaded it. I thought cheating was suppose to pay off

Yes that's correct. Your phone needs to be rooted. You can also spoof using an Emulator like HandyAndy.

PSA: If you're playing on Android, download the Google Opinion Rewards app.

You get paid for surveys, and you can buy stuff in Pokemon Go.

Literally free. (If you don't count paying in data, but you can lie about that.)

Fair play. Not fussed anyway. Phone's rooted as I wanted to get rid of Samsung's bloatware, but I'm not going to bother spoofing.

Housemate has mentioned Google Opinion Rewards before. Might be worth having a nosey at.

Only things in the shop that look worthwhile though are the two 200c upgrates (Pokemon Capacity and... I forget the other one)

Google rewards is definitely worth installing. Surveys take 1-3 min usually, sometimes the odd 10 min survey will come through. I've made quite a bit off it over the years :-

Apparently, it'll occasionally ask if you've been to [place]... but [place] doesn't exist. If you say yes, no more surveys.

Yeah that's reasonable. I just got asked if I'm a parent. Said no. Got 50p. Is good!

Back onto pokemon talk.. I need to go walk more. But I'm fat and lazy. (He says after doing a nearly-12km trek the other night)
