Joedetic Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I was singing that to myself when I first saw this topic
mattx Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 To get this thread back on topic - sort of - I don't know why but I've got this mental image of mattx singing "should I stay or should I go?" Joe Strummer/Clash style....... One for the Old Farts social group tech_guy !!
witch Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I thought of the same song -but then I am an Old Fart But joedetic? Given your avatar I think you may have been born in the wrong decade!! So is it 70's prog rock or punk or what with you?
Joedetic Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Born in the wrong decade....believe it or not I have actually heard that one before. I like all sorts Quite a big fan of prog rock and classic rock but I'll listen to most things. What can I say...I have good taste That or I'm an old fart WAY before my time.

Joedetic Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Not that you'll get me to admit to it in person, but yes I do like Genesis. I'm not sure whether it's Peter Gabriel's Genesis or Phil Collins' Genesis but all the same it's all good
tech_guy Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) Doesn't matter whose Genesis it is it's all mush. Edited February 10, 2008 by tech_guy
john Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 All I will say to this is I've been there myself not so long ago and what ever decision you make you will in the end regret it, I do and its more than just when the pay slip arrives and then the end of month / start of month outgoings all fly out and I look at the moths left in my bank account, everytime the moaning starts and nagging I think WHY! Ive done it three times now been for and offered them, and thought long and hard, one time I didnt like the firm and people i would be working with so didnt really mind turning that one down, just would have been glad to have been out of hte place I was working in, the other times, its probably because im leaving my comfort zone as it were, so feel like :S do I really want to go, yes is the answer and I need to go for my health probably this time, but think hard, and if in doubt, and there is nothing that you have found to be bad about the new job, then take it. Oh as for Genesis, I like them and Pink Floyd as well
Joedetic Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 If you want to add some more random stuff to the list of bands (just to go even more off topic) try R.E.M, The Levellers and Wolfstone.
alan-d Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Getting back to the OP - yes another old fart - late but got here eventually Where do you want to be in 5 - 10 years time? Can you get there in your current post? Would a couple of years stress be worth it if you could achieve your aims? As for the financial side - would the extra money be used up in travel costs, go to the taxman or both?
torledo Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Doesn't matter whose Genesis it is it's all mush. if you don't like either still that's fine it's you're preference. But the late 60's early 70's prog rock sound with gabriel on vocals and collins on drums (where he belonged) is very different from the 80's genesis with Collins on lead vocals. I personally love the gabriel-era genesis...'i know what i like' and The Music box set are just fantastic. I
witch Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Genesis were the best band of all time at their peak. I don't mind collins singing the earlier stuff 'Seconds Out' is a brilliant live album - 'Carpet Crawl' on it is def the best version (I have 4). Saw them 3 times over the years. Once in Birmingham when Prince Charles was there! Love Floyd too and Purple. So, Joedetic - they are retro hugs - no wonder they are so good! I do like new stuff too - honest!
mattx Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Its really bad news people - I'm staying... I 'fink.....

Plus early genesis performances were as much about gabriels performance and outfits on stage aswell as the quality of the music.
mattx Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 But Collin's songs were mainly about his X Wife !!!! Move on Phil !! Anyway - how dare you lot hijack my thread about me either staying in my current job or moving on..... If you are gonna talk about 'proper' music, at least have the intelligence to talk about someone like Miles Davis, Bob James, Lalo Schifrin or Hancock.....
tech_guy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Yesterday I did a poo and it was orange. Do you think I need to be worried?
mattx Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Yesterday I did a poo and it was orange. Do you think I need to be worried? I told you to stop eating those potato chips in fake oil.....
tech_guy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Sorry, Mattx, couldn't resist hijacking your thread further. Good news though that you're staying put & best of all staying in edu.... ;-)
mattx Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Mattx, couldn't resist hijacking your thread further. Oh don't worry about that, now back to your orange poo..........

Not a great moment in his illustrious career.
witch Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 SO mattx - what made you decide to stay in the end?
tech_guy Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Phil Collins is a bit of a plonker anyway. Most 'celebrities' are.
mattx Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 SO mattx - what made you decide to stay in the end? A nice chat with the head.
witch Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Did he offer you money, advancement or said he'd break your legs if you went?!
john Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 A nice chat with the head. They tend to sound good at the time but in the end you think oh pants why on earth did I listen to them as it made no difference.
