Hi everyone.

This issue has been a pain in the neck for quite some time now and i hope someone might know the answer to our issue.

Our school is on a Windows 2008 R2 domain and we have a Apple Mac suite running along side it (with a Mac server doing the integration of course). On the mac server, workgroup manager is setup with 2 main network groups: All_Students & All_Staff. Both groups have the AD groups, "Students" and "All staff" associated with them.

There is also an Air Print brother printer (with the very latest drivers) installed and shared from the mac server.

Recently, the "All_Students" group has suddenly stopped being able to print. When a student account sends anything to ANY printer, nothing happens. When you check the print queue, you see that the job is Paused. You can't resume it at all but only to delete it. Staff and Administrators do not share the same issue. Both AD groups share pretty much the same attributes too!

Nothing has changed at all from both Mac environment and AD. I tried the following with no success:

  1. Unbind and re-bind back to our AD
  2. Installed different printers
  3. Tried installing a print server software
  4. Tried installing a cloud based (Google Print) print solution
  5. Upgrading the OS to El-Capitan on both server and client side
  6. Deleting and Re-creating the "All_Students" group under Workgroup Manager
  7. Checking printer permissions on CUPS
  8. Checking Sharing settings on Mac server

I probably tried other methods but can't remember anything else i can list here.

Anyone here had a similar issues and managed to solve this issue?

Run OS updates. I had this issue with Ricoh printers. Though the drivers were in the image there were new updates that prevented the printers from printing. All jobs would just get paused.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that didn't help either. The macs are running the latest updates and Brother printer drivers. The fact that teachers and administrators can print with no issues at all shows that there aren't any issues with the drivers. They were able to print before hand even with the older drivers.

Any other suggestions?

Are you running Papercut? This sounds a little like the behaviour that Papercut uses when you try to print to a Papercut managed queue but either don't have the Paperclient client installed or running.

No papercut. We do have Papercut in our school but is completely isolated from our Apple Mac suite. The printer we are using in our apple mac suite is a Brother DCP-9020CDW.

Tend to agree with Norphy sounds like a papercut thing. Some one hasn't added the the Mac server as a secondary server ? Also are the print queues on the Mac or PC ?

Hi Galijanach,

I've just added our new Konica Printers which have Windows virtual queues try the following method.

Add Printer use to Advanced button (you'll need to add to the print toolbar) right click customise the toolbar drag Advanced over.

Click on Advanced add the type, Device (Windows Spoolss), URL and choose a driver and click on add.

Regards,

Crawford
