TronXP Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Can anyone recommend a good webhosting company. I currently use fasthosts I have around 8/10 domains I want to transfer away from them. There packages have degraded, the options for the domains seems to have all but gone and am sick of them. All my servers are linux, and I use MYSQl and php. Not to bothered about location of servers as long as their quick and reliable. These are personal websites not school related. Any Suggestions would be welcome!
Edu-IT Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 How much space/bandwidth do you require? CS New Media posted an offer on here.
Sirbendy Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 We use Streamline.net for the school sites, and I use site5 for home use. No complaints for either..
powdarrmonkey Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I lease my own servers, you're welcome to rent a bit of space on them. Means you can have a tailored package.
russdev Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Until I went vps route I used plugsocket very good company and domain hosting is till done through them as well. Russell

Friez Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 From experience Dreamhost provide a fantastic setup and are excellent service too. Their current offer is 500gb of storage (which increases by 2GB weekly), 5TB of monthly bandwidth (increases by 4gb weekly) and an insane amount of features including PHP, mysql and Email. all for a really low price too. I highly recommend them!
powdarrmonkey Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 From where? (Important). Do you mean my boxes? From two companies in London data centres, both have full peering arrangements and 100% uptime in 2007.

They're alright if you are looking to store lots of files but if you're planning on hosting a website with them then I wouldn't bother. I've heard bad things about them from quite a few people.
alan-d Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I use UK2.net and have had 100% uptime for the 2 years I've been with them.
localzuk Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I use a company called VPSLand for my hosting. Packages are cheap, reliable and completely configurable however you want them.

john Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Thank you Feel free to take a look at the link in my signature. Just to say I took them up on this offer the other day for a site and domain and WOW I've never had such a fast setup and the Plesk control panel is really nice to work with (never used it before always had cPanel from my other hosting providers) so very impressed with them so far.

I'm sorry, I can't let that comment stand. So you've heard 'bad things' about them such as? Where've you heard this from? I've never had a problem with them and I've been using them for over 8 years and my sites have had virtually no downtime. Their support is top notch and their prices are awesome. Do you have actual evidence to support your claim or is what you say unsubstantiated? I'm curious to find out what's bad with them, they're the BEST web hosting company I've ever used hands down.
