36Degrees Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I've just discovered that we no longer receive SIMS support from the LEA but go directly to Capita and that I need to update to v7.168 before Thursday (Census)! Do I just copy the upgrade zips and signatures with higher numbers from the downloaded ISO to the Setups folder on our server or is it more complicated than that?
Homer Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I wouldn't like to be in your position! If I were you give SIMS a shout and make sure you have an upgrade path. I've been out of the SIMS game for a couple of years but when I left it was a SOLUS3 job 1
36Degrees Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 That's the other issue - we're still on SOLUS2...
pete Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 ^ Solus 2 is still supported for the Spring 2016 release (last one it's supported on). Call SIMS and explain the situation. Provided your SIMS is in a decent state it shouldn't take long. Did the LEA leave any documentation lying around about what they've put in place to make updates go smoothly? 1
36Degrees Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Everything was done remotely, I would find out that there was an update when I loaded SIMS. Rarely had issues so never contacted them for support.
Banjo Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Moving to Solus 3 should be fun - have you recently converted to an academy?
36Degrees Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 We are an academy but have been for a while.
Homer Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Oh mate I feel for you! I don't know what they recommend these days but we moved Solus3 on to it's own box (or box doing other updatey/utility things) due to how much of an absolute resource hog it was. I hope it's come on since I last used it as it was a right pain in the backside. I would look to go to latest release on S2 and then get S3 up and running for Summer release but certainly speak to SIMS support to assess where you are in terms of releases and make sure you have everything you need. S2 might need reconfiguring if it was LEA supported before glhf 1
36Degrees Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 *fingers crossed* it appears to be an issue with the contract not SOLUS. What I was attempting initially was correct but it isn't showing any available updates as the support contract side is FUBAR...
Barcrest Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 If you put the latest versions in the setups folder and run the upgrades on the server you should be good to go. The clients should update when they are run. I have never had an issue with this when we were on solus 2 and I always found upgrading to be pretty painless. 1
36Degrees Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 All sorted now. Easy once the contract was sorted!
