z4ydi Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Could someone please let me know which one of the Managed Wireless solutions are the best ones in terms of coverage, cost and easy to configure.
Paid_Peanuts Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 We use Cisco for our wireless - pricier then your netgears and the like but worth every penny. We use AIR-1242AG access points with a 4400 controller. Money well spent in my opinion! Traded up from individual netgear AP's and some 3com and its a world of difference!
z4ydi Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 how much does this cost for about 10 APs
mattx Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Aruba for ours - just about to put in an order for another switch and a load of APs...
Ric_ Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 There is no 'best' solution... you need to look into the systems (the three big ones are Cisco, BlueSocket and Aruba with HP and Netgear coming into the fight now). Each system offers different features and prices vary depending upon your needs. I use a BlueSocket system which offers me everything I need and my 'thin' 802.11a/bg APs work across the switched network without requiring special switches.

Hi would add Trapeze into the mix as well, heard lots of positive things about them as well. Ash.
z4ydi Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 if i call cisco, bluesocket,Aruba or Trapeze to come and do a survay would they charge us for that?
Ric_ Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 if i call cisco, bluesocket,Aruba or Trapeze to come and do a survay would they charge us for that? These companies tend not to deal direct so you need to find a good reseller and talk to people who have the systems because they are the only ones that will tell you about the downsides! Some companies will perform a survey free of charge whilst others will not. Any surveys that are performed should be fully documented and should involve a bit more than trial and error with an AP - anyone can do that!
