Simply by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account - the we populate the fields for an Exchange email but we turn off (Mail, Contacts, Reminders and Notes) and only leave Calendar selected.

We have a shared school calander that only the reception staff has read and write access to it to populate the calendar everyone else has read only access. This work perfectly fine and no one can add or delete event on this calendar through outlook. However, we added the school calendar for some teachers on their iPads and we noticed that they can add and delete events from it. Wonder if anyone had similar issue and how did you go around it. Note: We have an internally hosted Exchange server 2010. Thanks

We are looking to appoint students as digital leaders. Here are a few questions that I needed to et some ideas on: It is quite difficult to draw a line as to how much they should be doing i.e. should they only help out with simple things like helping out staff with ppt video/audio embeding, populating MLE pages, graphic design (creating posers for events and website), or should we get them involved in more technical issues too like printer jam clearing, IWB connections, projectors, helping out in assemblies (ppt loading, projector on/off) etc. What is the best way of appointing them (through a point system earned by sudents or interviews). Who is responsible for overlooking this process and manaing digital leaders (the ICT Teacher or IT Manager)? Many thanks

I am particularly interested to carryout my research dissertation related to IT projects in UK Schools, I wonder if you guys can share with me some ideas, or point me to a knowledge gap that is not yet explored in project management. thank you Kipling that did the trick, now I want to test whether enabling loop-protect will stop the loops by loop protecting a couple of ports on a switch and then plugging one end of a cable to on port and the other end to the second port on the same switch creating a loop to see whether this will bring down the network. unless someone has a better idea of testing.

of course I can plug-in the serial cable to each switch and use a cli utility i.e. Putty or Hyper terminal to connect to them OR as you said untag a port on the Default VLAN on eache switch and connect to that particular port, but this means I have to go to about 10 cabinets in different parts of the building and this is quite tedious. and if a loop happens I want to be able to telnet to each switch and use the command "loop-protect show all" to see which switch and which port is flooded - can you imagine going round 10 cabinets trying to find loops. We dont have a server that runs Procurve Manager - we type the IP of the core switch in the browser to access the web interface. is there a software to install, would it give me more than the web interface?

The Switches were installed just before i join the school configured by the people who supplied the lot. The setup is: We have HP ProCurve 2900 as our Core Switch - and then the HP ProCurve 2510 - 48 switches in the cabs around the school. We have 3 VLANs configured on the Core switch (Curriculum and Admin, and Default VLAN), The 2510 switches are all assigned the Default VLAN IPs and ofcourse this is an IP range that totally different to the Cur and Admin network. Now when I can not telnet to these switches because they are in a different range and the only switch that I can telenet to is the core switch because it also has a curriculum IP assigned. Hope this is clear enough

I have a problem now - I can only telnet to the Core switch as it is in the same IP range as the rest of the network but the rest of the switches are part of the VLAN IP which is a totally different range - I manually assigned an IP of that range to my PC and tried to telnet to the rest of the switches but to no avail. how do I telnet to the rest please help me.....

Thank you Keithu - As I said i am quite a dummy when it comes to CLI and switch configuration, I will be executing these commands on switches on a live network, If i run these commands would it not hamper the network? - or do I have to take certain precautions before running this, if so what are they. Secondly should I run loop-protect for all ports on a switch or just the main Link port to isolate the loop on a switch level. Thanks

Oh thanks for that - I checked it on the web interface under Device features and Spanning Tree is ON, on all switches in the Stack, then why was the loop/flood not isolated, yesterday?

yes we have 2 VLANs but how can I check wheter SPT is enabled or not I checked the ProCurve web management utility but did not find anything there. can someone please let me know how to do this

We have HP ProCurve 2900 as our Core Switch - and then the HP ProCurve 2510 - 48 switches in the cabs around the school. We have recently put these in solely to stop these stupid loops created by students -switches were configured by the people who supply them for us. But last night I had a hell of a job to sort out a network flood/loop - eventually found it after 2 hours. My question is: How come these new switches did not stop the loop - are they not properly configured (i.e. STP is not set) if so how can I configure them to stop this headache - I am a dummy when it comes to switches

I logged into the workstations - checked the All Users profile, there are no icons on the desktop in that folder. Then checked the Default User profile and there it was the Kudos icon. inserted the follwoing into the logon script: "C:\documents and settings\%user%\Default User\desktop\kudos.lnk"/f But still did not delete the Kudos icon. I wonder whether I have to put the %user% in the link or not, can someone help me, the resaon I got %user% there is to delete the Kudos icon for whoever logs into the machines. please help

No it is not. it is in the default profile

We have the Kudos web based software icon (it is just a link to the web) in the default profile. we would like to remove the icon from all PCs I put this line: del "C:\documents and settings\%user%\desktop\kudos.lnk"/f in the logon script but to no avail. Am I missing anything here? please help.

We do not have a Cache server, so it is something to do on the ISP side - they said they rebooted the Cache server last week but the problem is til there I emailed them the snapshots today and see what they come up with.

In the past couple of week we intermittently get cartoon images or other pictures when trying to go to any legitimate website i.e www.google.com or bbc or others. this problem then goes away and then appears on another PC in the network, I scanned the PCs for the virus and it is clean. I called the ISP however and they had to restart their Cache server last week and give me the assurance that it should now be ok. But of course it keeps happening - not on the whole network but a machine here and there and the same machine will be fine after few hours. Let me know of your thoughts on this or if you come across the problem what you did to resolve. Thanks

We have employed a technician which will join us around 27th. I was thinking of preparing a guide/information sheet that will explain the procedures we have in place and how things work in school, also how should he approach tasks in a productive manner i.e multitasking etc. Does anyone have an idea or a simillar guide? I have a Toshiba (Equium M70-337 Model number: psm77e-00L00mAV) 15 inch screen. The AC adapter cable is lose hence it has to be in certain angle to supply power or it disconnects. The AC adapter specification is: Input 100-240V ~ 1.5aoutput 19V 3.42A I have a spare one but with slightly different specification: Input 100-240V ~ 1.3a output 19V 3.95A I was wondering if it is safe to use it with my laptop. Please let me know and educate me on these voltage complexities if possible please.

I think because of the nature of the problem i.e egg timer appears when navigating the network shared drive it seems like a disk problem to me but not sure.
