the network is periodically slowing/freezing down in all rooms for some reasons. when a student navigates their network drives and folders suddenly the egg timer appears for about 10 sec and then it goes away and the navigating becomes smooth and fast and then after about 5 minutes or so it happens again. it happens throughout the network. The internet speed is fine, I used http://speedtest.net/ to check, the download speed is 16399 and the upload speed is 7693. it is just the periodic freezes while navigating through the network drives. I checked our cabling it is fine. The only thing I did recently is that I modified the Application Control "default policy" in Sophos Enterprise Consol to stop pupils from playing games and using Ultraserf. I have now disabled that policy but the problem is still there. Any idea guys please help. Sorry I just realised i posted the thread in a wrong section of the forum but I dont know how to move it to the network section

the version installed is 1.3. You can see from the image that there is no entry for Shutdownertron in the registry. but yet my test meachine has the right registry settings applied, posted in my previous post.

I dont get any event log error related to shutdownertron

I have reinstalled the new version and applied the policy to my test PC again and when I go to the registry of the test PC all the settings are applied, yet the machine wont shut down

I have installed Shutdownertron on the server and imported the template and configured the settings to shutdown in certain time etc. I applied the GPO to my test machine, but it did not shutdown the PC, I tested the GPO on few different PCs but no joy, when I type gpresult on the client PC it does show that the policy is applied. Please let me know what am I doing wrong and whether there is a more detailed installation manual

after installing when I try to run the Shutdownertron Configuration from Administrative tools I get a message: "Policy settings have not been applied. Check GPO have refreshed properly". Is there an installation guide for the software, as I think I might be doing something wrong. thanks

it would be nice to have the functionality to save open work to the home drive of the user logged in before shutdown. i.e in a special folder on thier home drive i.e H:\\autosave

To eliminate the doubt and check whether the Admin PCs will pickup a Curriculum IP or not, I disabled the Admin scope and then logged in to an admin PC which is on an admin switch, I have released the IP and forced it to renew, but it came up with the message "Limited or no connectivity", I restarted the PC AND flushed, the dns clicked on Repair etc, it still did not pick up any IP. this is getting confusing now, if the network was interlink then the Admin PC should have picked up a curr IP on this occasion because the only Active scope on the server was the curriculum scope. The mixup should bee on both networks not just curriculum don’t you agree?

but the funny thing is that when I checked the Admin PCs non of them has picked up curriculum IP. If the 2 networks were cross linked then the same problem should have exist on the admin network too, dont you think? i mean some of the Admin PCs should have picked up curriculum IP.

the IPs are correctly assigned on both NICs. should I call our ISP, and find out from them whether they have misconfigured our router maybe?

But when I give a PC an Admin IP and then put it on a curriculum switch, because the curriculum domain controller which is hosting the DHCP services has 2 network cards; wouldnt this allow routing between the 2 networks anyway. I have still tried the same and yes I can ping any admin machine. and we only have one router that connects both networks to the internet.

We have separate switches for admin and curriculum. yet PCs which are feeding from the same curriculum switch, in random receive some ADMIN IPs and some PCs receive CURRICULUM IP addresses. the 2 networks are separated at the router level.

I think this is where the problem is too. The server that is hosting both scopes has 2 network cards one for 10.8.98.0 range and the other for 10.8.100.0 range but I do not know how to bind the right scope to the right network card. please some one help me.

Well the DHCP for both Admin and Curriculum was configured on the same server and we had no problem for the past few years, as we started to run out of IP addresses all I did is to delete the old Curriculum scope and create a new scope with bigger IP range, after the change this IP mixup is happening. here is the configuration for both admin and curr on the same server.

We run DHCP services for both curriculum and Admin network on the same server. We have recently changed our IP address scope for curriculum network because it was running out of IP addresses. However after the change our curriculum PCs are now randomly picking up Admin IP addresses (some PCs receive CURRICULUM IPs and some admin IPs in the same class room feeding from the same switch). We then have to do IPRELEASE and IPRENEW, to force these PCs to pickup curr IP; but this keeps hppening over and over, please advice if you know why.

I realised the error and I called our ISP and asked them to only change the subnet maske from 255.255.255.0; to 255.255.252.0 and leave the ip address s 10.8.100.0 they have realised thier mistake and changed the ip back to 10.8.100.0. Now I tried to create a new scope it comes up with an error message saying "this is a wrong scope or the scope already exists" though this is not the exact wording of the error but it is something in the same line. I disabled the existing scope and then tried to create a new one it still did not allow me.

I traied to edit the existing scope but i can not edit the subnet mask, it is grayed out for some reasons. any clues?

Our ISP has changed our IP range for curriculum network so that we can accomodate more clients on the network as the old range only allowed 254 hosts (Old IP settings: 10.8.100.0 subnet mask 255.255.255.0/24) which gives us 254 hosts. on the new range they have changed our IP address to 10.8.101.0 with a subnet mask of 225.255.252.0/22 which will allow 1022 hosts." please guide me step by step how to configure my DHCP and DNS for the new IP range.

Our IP address scope for curriculum network is running out as our IP range currently is (current IP settings: 10.8.100.0 subnet mask 255.255.255.0). Since our current range only gives us 254 hosts, I contacted our ISP and they told me that I can choose by how much to increase the number of hosts. can some on advice me: should I go for : 10.8.100.0/23 which gives me 510 host OR should I go for : 10.8.100.0/22 which gives me 1022 hosts Although I want to go for more hosts 1022 but is there anything that I should consider when choosing more hosts? please advice me

Online backup system implementation Website should be made more dynamic and informative MLE should be in use in all subject departments I need to know your points of view in terms of what is going to be hot in the next 3 years in relation to school ICT, and any solutions that you might think i missed.
