Hi All,

Wondered whether anyone could help - hope I've posted in the correct place.

I'm a primary school teacher in charge of IT and we are having issues with a number of our new SMART 4065 panels. We have 16 fitted and have recurring problems with about half. One has been replaced three times. Issues include 'dead spots' which seem to come and go and the cursor moving of its own accord and closing tabs on the browser. We have received some support from Steljes but I've spoken to our original supplier earlier I'm believe that they are no longer working with Smart?

We are running up-to-date software and drivers but again I've been told today that a (firmware?) update has been imminent for 6 months that is meant of fix some of these issues. We are one of a number of schools in our local area who are having problems with these panels and who are generally not feeling very well looked after in terms of 'aftercare' .

If anyone has any information or advice I'd be grateful. Apologies for not being able to give specific technical information about the issues, like I say I'm only a teacher.

Thank you

Hmmm - We've only got one of these (now using Ctouch boards) and we've got the same issues - cleaned the strips but still gives problems. I'd be interested if there is a fix.

We just had two of our 4065's replaced with new ones as they were disconnecting their usb connection from time to time and not reacting to touch from time to time. So far they've been better but it's still occurring intermittently. No word on smart to us about a firmware upgrade to rectify this.

Funny, I was coming into this subforum specifically to post something very similar! We're having issues with just about all of the 4065's and the 2 6065's we have. Already had one panel replaced by Steljes which was an absolute nightmare - they claimed it hadn't been installed properly and left it on the floor, forcing our AV supplier to come and re-fit it (it had been fitted safely). After all that, there are still the same problems. And I've also been told about the Smart/Steljes feud so sounds like they won't be supporting us anymore (not that we really want them to after that)

I'm at my wits end with them. They work perfectly sometimes, but other times, teachers writing just stops being detected, or certain dead spots appear. I was wondering if we are doing something wrong with them but obviously not.

Certainly will never ever buy another SMART panel

Majority of problems I've seen with these boards has been down to bad installs &/or bad cabling, usually people running USB cables that are too long and unable to reliably retain connection.

I've got a 4065 doing the same thing. We're using the 5M SMART cable that was supplied with it.

I'm considering using an active USB cable, to try and rule that out although it seems too random to be a cabling issue as it can happen once a week or once a day. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

I'm having similar issues but have found that going right back and re-installing SMART Notebook (we're going from version 15.2 to 16) works best.

My process..

After un-installing Notebook I've been installing Windows updates KB2670838 and KB3033929

Ensuring IE 11 is installed

Install Notebook using file 'smartesi2016aprweb2'

Once all this is done I've found connecting the machine to the board, then switching on the board and then re-booting the machine has worked best. It does seem to take a long time for the INK and interactivity to install though.

I was just connecting an already booted machine to the SMARTboard, but the interactivity would still play up, even after disconnecting and re-connecting the USB cable. I was also finding I would have to do a few re-boots before everything was running as expected.

I've also ditched the 5m USB cable and using 1m instead.

HTH

Just to be clear the 1m cable is from the wall point to the PC, I estimate the cabling from the wall point to the screen is about 3m.

Hi

I just saw this and would urge you to please call our contact centre on 0800 014 8908. Our support team is here to help them identify the cause of any issues and resolve them where they are caused by an in-warranty failure of a SMART product. or reach out directly to me

Hi CADA,

Its sounds like a issue with the USB cable or connection. How long is the cable you are using? Sometimes if it is over 2mtr it can have issues.

What we do to over come these kind of issues for both parties is test all new installed screens over a couple of hours with a member of the school and replace any cables/ conections that may be causing the issue.

It may be a connection issue with the socket and not the cable - best thing is to call your supplier to get it looked at as no school should be with out a working interactive panel for a length of time!

I may be wrong but seams that way

I hope you get this sorted.

Just adding my two penneth, if its dead spots I found that cleaning out the chanel around the edge and the corner sensors with a non scratch cloth, then reset the screen did the job for me. Found the solution in a Smart document. Had a few teachers complain of areas where it wasnt writing etc, did the clean and reset, hey presto, working as it should again. Worth a try.
