[sims] Slow logon

Hi,

 

I have a school full of slow SIMS logons at present and I am not sure how to fix it (waiting for Sims to get back to me again).

 

It all started when I changed the document server to a IP address, I was told to do this to fix a user not being able to access documents. This resulted in super slowdown so a teach changed it back and it seemed to work but everyone is having issues with it now. I 'think' its to do with the check that Sims does when it starts up as when I removed it from the group policies and just left it in the plain users part of the directory it loads up in seconds. My folders are redirected and it doesn't like how my libraries are setup.... possibly but nothing has changed in the past 3 months so no idea why its tizzy fitting now.

 

Anyone seen this?

 

I migrated to SQL2014 on a new server too (which was so much fun) which hasn't helped the speed.

Probably not going to be this simple, but it worked for me a couple of weeks ago when it was taking ages for people to log onto SIMS: I just rebooted the SIMS server.

I had to do that this lunch time. SIMS was taking up the majority of the resources on the server. Rebooted and the server has been fine all afternoon.

Have you looked at this? compatibility level to sql 2012

It was doing it with SQL 2008 also but I've stuck it in compat mode anyway and ordered the patches to reindex.

 

Its only happening for staff, as a admin its perfick.

When you changed the Document Server to IP, did you change anything in your proxy settings etc? If the clients are having to go through a proxy to get to the Document Management it can really slow down SIMS boot times.

 

If it's not the Document Server, it could be SIMSload. Easiest way to test this is browse to Program Files > SIMS > SIMS .net on the slow machine and run Pulsar.exe and log in to SIMS as normal. If SIMS loads quicker using this exe rather than the shortcut then the problem is with SIMSload and/or access to the SIMS Shared folder.

 

If neither of those have any effect, then it's probably the server/SQL instance itself.

What I have found is if I mess up the Document server link and save it then the user flies in so it must be something to do with that.

 

I've just removed my staff test account from all my redirection OUs and its still really slow.

 

So permission accessing the DMS? Sims permissions? need to go home and test further.

We had some issues in a few schools with performance many years ago that we pinpointed down to the Document Management Server. Changing the DMS protocol from http to tcp resolved things for us.

The TCP thing worked.. eventually although it took a long time to work it out.

 

you have to edit the xml file first, restart the service then go into sims and change it in there.. changing to tcp just in sims doesn't work.

 

Sims support were connected to my PC for almost 3 hours
