I'm sure this is going to prove popular in education.

As more and more educational institutions have selected Dropbox, we’ve listened to and learned from their specific needs. Today we’re introducing Dropbox Education—a new solution designed to meet those needs and help faculty and staff at colleges and universities stay productive.

With our new offering, even more educational institutions will be able to take advantage of collaborative workflows. Here’s what Dropbox Education includes:

  • Cost-effective pricing. Teams on Dropbox Education will get the key features and functionality they need at £35 ($49) /user per year. Educational institutions are also eligible for volume-based discounts based on their deployment size.
  • Shared storage limits. Teams will get 15 GB of shared storage for each user—giving, for example, a 300-person team 4.5 TB of space—for flexible access to data.
  • Extended version history. Users can recover a previous version or deleted file at any time within a year of an edit or deletion.
  • Enhanced visibility and control. IT can manage users, monitor activity, and control sharing permissions, all from one central Admin Console.
  • Compliance support. Dropbox Education can help institutions comply with relevant standards and regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

We’re also excited to announce expanded partnerships with Ingram Micro and Synnex that will bring Dropbox Education to even more colleges and universities worldwide. Educational institutions now have the option to work with their trusted IT partners, or directly with Dropbox.

As universities deploy Dropbox Education, they’ll benefit from features that have already made Dropbox essential for thousands of institutions. Professors can collect student coursework using file requests, researchers can share large data sets with internal and external collaborators, and administrators can easily distribute notes and memos to faculty with shared links and folders.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Arizona State University, University College London, and Switzerland’s Schule für Gestaltung Bern und Biel are just a few of the institutions that have deployed Dropbox on campus. We’re excited to enable greater collaboration for faculty and staff at universities and colleges around the world, helping them work better together.

Frequently asked questions

What is your pricing model?

Dropbox Education is priced at £35/user/year, with a minimum of 300 users. If you’re interested in learning more about Dropbox Education, or would like to discuss pricing options for smaller education teams, please contact our sales team.

I’m a student. Are there discounts for Dropbox Pro plans?

We don’t offer student discounts for our Dropbox Pro offering—but our Basic plan starts you off with 2 GB of free storage space, and you can earn more by doing things like referring friends.

Can I share files or folders with Basic/Pro users if I’m on a Dropbox Education account?

Absolutely! As long as your team admin permits external sharing, you can share with any Dropbox user, even if they’re not a member of your Dropbox Education team. Remember that Dropbox Basic and Pro users will be restricted by their personal storage quotas.

How is Dropbox Education different to Dropbox Business?

Dropbox Education is designed to meet the needs of educational institutions and schools. With the option to purchase the right amount of storage for your team, and preserve one year of version history on all files, Dropbox Education allows you to tailor your deployment to your budget.

I’m a professor. What if I just want Dropbox for a small lab group?

No problem. Dropbox Education can be used in a small lab, or stretched across an entire campus. Fill out the contact form below, and someone from our education team will get back to you about how Dropbox Education can best fit your needs.

How much space does my team get with Dropbox Education?

Dropbox Education offers teams a pooled amount of storage space depending on their team size. Teams of 300 users or more get 15 GB of shared storage space for each user, or 4.5 TB on a pooled basis. If you need more space, or would like to better understand the current Dropbox usage on your domain, please contact us to discuss what makes the most sense for your deployment.

Where can I learn more about security with Dropbox Education?

At Dropbox, data security and user privacy are paramount. You can learn more about Dropbox’s approach to security at dropbox.com/business/trust.

...Dropbox Education is priced at £35/user/year, with a minimum of 300 users...

At that price, it would cost us over £42,000 per year to provide Dropbox for all of our students.
