Having Virgin media fitted tomorrow. I bought an apple AirPort Extreme last year to increase my wireless range in the house and has worked perfectly. Just wondering what you guys think keep with the AirPort Extreme or use the superhub supplied by Virgin.

I would see how it goes, I had a superhub a couple of years ago with Virgin Media before moving and I did need another WAP for coverage. The superhub we had did have the option to be just a modem, or a router as well.

It maybe a bit different with 'Virginia' media though, would imagine it would bea little slower if you're not in the State. ;)

Superhub2 is decent enough i find, its a marked improvement on the Superhub1 with VM, I don't suffer bad wifi with the new hub at all. I would say to see how you go with it before cracking out the airport. it should be decent enough.

You may actually get the new SuperHub3 (White) which is a step up in performance and coverage against the SuperHub2.

I had a SH2 die and they swapped it with the SH3 and with it I was able to bin my wireless extender.

Does the VOIP functionality work on SH3?

I found the Virgin Super Hub 1 awful. The Super Hub 2 was better but found the 2.4Ghz was dire no matter what channel i picked and would need rebooting every few weeks. In the end i had enough and got a used Ruckus 7363 AP cheap off eBay and coverage and performance around my house is now excellent. The back room in my house AirPlay with Apple TV was bad, always disconnecting with the Virgin Super Hub, with the Ruckus AP its perfect.

I don't have any experience in how good the Apple Airports are though.

I have a SuperHub ac, before that I used an Apple AirPort Extreme 11n with a BT Infinity connection.

Despite my trepidation (Netgear, ugh), the SuperHub has done reasonably well so far. According to the software on my Mac, it puts out a slightly stronger wireless than the AirPort did. I think I've had to reboot it maybe a half dozen times in 18 months. I will say that I've had one die for no obvious reason but it got replaced with a few days.

The heaviest thing that my connection gets used for these days is streaming from Netflix and Amazon Prime, I don't game any more so I don't know well it copes with that.

I've got a Virgin Superhub 2 and already had an AirPort Extreme, so turned off the wireless signal from the Sh2 and just used the AirPort Extreme which performs fine in coverage and streaming Plex to my living room.

I'd pick the AirPort over the Superhub. I don't like the idea of Virgin having access to it, they can see all the connected devices. You can't change the DNS on a Superhub, and changing from Virgin's to another had provided a speed increase for me when browsing.
