I've done it without issue. I must confess to reading the ACS notes but largely ignoring them and doing it the way I always have. I also used the ePortal backup routine from a previous Link2ICT Facility download rather than backing up ePortal manually. The only thing I had to restore in the ePortal config was API.xml and our custom splash screen.

I called ACS and to ask if I needed to do anything special - but they said just follow our notes. I just got a little chicken when it started asking me to delete the ePortal and admin folders.

....delete the ePortal and admin folders.

I didn't do this lol and it worked fine but as always YMMV.

We have that much stuff in those folders it would have been folly to try and put it all back again afterwards.

I always just rename the admin folders etc. It's not like my server needs the space.

TBH, and I am jinxing myself in saying this, but it's been a long time since the update process gave me any trouble. The biggest problem is the hidden bugs, later patched, which is why I always wait as long as I can before I do the update--I'm hoping they'll have found the problems and patched them already so I don't have to go through the update twice :)

So, delete should have been rename... (was trying to post the brief moment the internet was working this afternoon).

I am not that brave / fool-hardy / stupid (lol) enough to delete them :)

Its just strange doing the update differently to all the previous times. The ePortal notes seem 10x more involved than the old Link2ICT method.

I have not done the facility update, I have yet to gain access to the install files and the installation notes. I am awaiting Advance learning to give me access. After getting no response from my email, I phoned the Advanced learning support line today, it took 25 minutes before support answered. Come back Link to ICT!

Just trying to do the Facility 16.1 update and as you all said, the instructions from Advance Learning are to rename the E:\Facility\Admin folder, however if I do that it will break ADSUM for dinners as its folder is in the admin folder. I called Link to ICT asking, should I follow the old Link to ICT instructions? Reply was that we cant officially say to follow them but she said the update installation has caused a lot of issues in Birmingham schools because I presume it has broken Adsum for Dinners and Adsum for Trips. Nightmare! What have other schools done?

I have just updated to 16.1 successfully WITHOUT renaming the folder. I have let the install overwrite the files as per the old LINK TO ICT Instructions. Glad that went OK!

I've upgraded all schools to 16.1 without issue and without renaming Admin. I queried the notes via a web chat and apparently I'm the first person EVER to say they're maybe a little too comprehensive and could be greatly shortened.

I await my medal in the post, but why Advanced think I have the time to read 50 odd pages (Facility and e-Portal), it's fair to say they're not advanced but very much out of touch!

I did say over the phone to Advanced that I felt the notes - especially the ePortal ones, seemed a fair bit more involved than the ones I was used to :)

In all fairness to Advanced, the notes are very comprehensive, which to me was a massive benefit when I did my first ever ePortal and CMIS update about 3 years ago.

There's a checklist near the front of the notes, a single side of A4. That's all you actually need :)

I guess thinking logically, why did Link2ICT go to the effort of creating 'straight to the point notes'? Because they knew the official notes were/are way too long and would create a lot of confusion, but also, people simply do not have the time to read 50 pages.

What other MIS product on the market requires comprehensive notes to upgrade?

E Portal did not work after the update. We lost the navigation bar on the homepage after the update so teachers cannot do the roll call. However I found it works fine on the Safari browser. I am waiting a fix from Advanced Learning. has anyone else had this problem?

I have this problem on my machine and only when using chrome but every other browser works, and no other machines are affected going to have a look at the cookies and cache to see if that is the problem.

If the menu/ navigation bar has gone then usually a forced refresh fixes it, crtl+f5 or clearing the browser cache.

It isn't that uncommon to be honest.

I'm having an issue with ePortal after the upgrade. Everytime I browse to the url the browser pops up asking if I want to save index.jsp.

I have tried different web browsers.. and getting the same error.

Doing the upgrade this morning, we regards to the index.jsp downloading.

I'm assuming IE gives you a page error, Chrome and Firefox download the .jsp. If so then you might need to replace the redirect file, I think on 64bit servers you need to replace it and on 32bit you don't. it might be the other way round though.
