MattDLEA Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 We have a NAS box with shares. I have set up the folders and shared them using a script eg net use p: \\NAS\Images /USER:name password This works fine however I want to hide the shares so I thought renaming the folder Images$ and then net use p: \\NAS\Images /USER:name password would work but it doesnt? anything obviously wrong?
Steve21 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 If you made it a $ share your netuse would be $ too wouldn't it? Steve
MattDLEA Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Edit sorry yeah net use p: \\NAS\Images$ /USER:name password is what I tried and nope
Steve21 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Can you get to the share manually using the $ way now? Just wondering if being a NAS the rename hasn't actually renamed the share etc so the net use can't find it Steve
sted Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 do $ shares work from nas boxes? I know windows wont see $ shares from a windows server but iirc linux boxes do so it might depend on how windows clients perceive the share if its not a "windows" share it may show it anyway
MattDLEA Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) I can get there manually Edited April 20, 2016 by MattDLEA
juliuscaesar Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Adding a $ hides the share from the server end. Depends on your NAS, on synology DSM you can change a share's settings to hide it, look for something similar on yours.
