OS X Server Stopped Working

For some reason unknown to us our OS X Server just stopped working last week.

It would not let us view the profile manager on Safari as we couldn't connect to the secure proxy, (We don't have this setup so no idea why this appeared)

Managed to tweak some network settings so that we could get into profile manager, but now no settings or apps are pushed across. They just sit at Pending indefinitely.

Anyone have any ideas?

Certificates still valid? Self-signed or otherwise. Anything getting blocked by filtering, that you can check? Time synced correctly?

Certificates are all well in date, server is white-listed and time is correct.

No changes were made to the server, it just decided not to work after the weekend.

Tried a full permissions repair? Our Macs have always had a liking for totalling themselves for no reason over a weekend - sometimes it's disk permissions, others it'll be some obscure bug in an update or similar. Good luck!

Just tried your suggestion of a permissions repair and we have some slight progress.

The push setting change from Pending to In progress, however they now all fail...

Did you follow the repair with the obligatory restart and updates check?

On the server yes, on the clients no.

Don't know if this will apply to you but I had a very similar problem recently.

Turned out Apple Push Notifications (APN) had turned itself off. Without anyone touching the server.

 

Turning it on and a quick off and on of profile manager seemed to bring it back to life

I was going through each of the settings this morning and on the settings tab the APN had been unchecked.

Just done as you said and some of the macs are succeeding. Although its doing it in a strange way where the settings fail to push but the Update info Succeeds.

Ye, the same here as well but it seems to have settled down now. All clients and the server have been rebooted since, so maybe that helped

We think we have managed to get it back to how we had the server. I removed the network settings from the profile manager and the settings pushed across.

No idea why the server decided to break and remove the Apple push notifications setting....

Renew your APNS cert in server.app and leave overnight.

Apple did have a blip the other week with this but I believe all is good now.

Thanks for the reply. I believe its back to normal again. Not 100% sure on what solved it but seems ok now.
