Festivals 2016 - Who's off to which?

It's that time of year when most of the big festivals have announced most of their line-ups and tickets are selling fast.

 

The Dos_Box clan are off to two this year. Kendal Calling and The Green Man.

We decided to camp externally to each this time though and walk in from nearby sites.

Primarily this is because we have had two years of mudbaths at Kendal Calling and after splashing out last year on the 'Deer Lodge' field for a small bell tent were very miffed to find it was worse than camping in the main field as they squeezed as many tents as they could in such a small space it ment that all routes around the site were ankle deep in mud. There wasn't even any room for the kids to run around.

So this time we have found a site about a mile and a half away with full facilities and rented a log-pod for the weekend.

It's a good lineup this year and very much looking forwards to seeing Madness and The Darkness

 

The Green man Festival was a last minute booking as they are the only place Grandaddy are playing in the Uk this year and it's supposed to be a very chilled out festival and has a great indy lineup. Again we have booked a nearby campsite and will be walking in each day

I don't do any of the major festivals myself, however I go to Lowde Fest every year (Hampshire's Premier Music and Beer Festival: Lowde Fest 16) - partly because it's happens in the field next to where my wife's parents live (litterally the stage backs onto the bottom of their garden), so we get free tickets and pop over to use a 'proper' toilet when needed! It happens in a normally very quiet hamlet, so the organisers either give free tickets to the locals or offer to put them up in a hotel for the night. It's done for charity so has a lot of acts playing that only do short sets with some well known names and a lot of up coming bands. Last year was Paul Young playing, I believe this year they'v managed to get The Feeling signed up. It's also a beer festival as well - result!

 

My daughter does Womad every year, and does the whole weekend camping with friends so she is in training for some of the other big festivals coming up in the future.

 

If anybody is going to Isle of Wight festival this year, can I make a personal recommendation that you go and see Lissie play. (Lissie - My Wild West) One of my favourite artists who I've seen at various Gigs round the country.

Off to Sziget Festival in Budapest in August for the second time (Sziget Festival - The Island of Freedom - 10-17 August 2016). Line up looks really good already and it's the same price for a week as a 3 day festival would be in the UK. Beer is £1.50 a pint within the festival too!

 

Went to Bathfest last year (which is in May). It's a mini-festival that's in its third year. Very cheap (sub-£50 for two days). Not going this year as tickets have sold out. The stupid thing is they haven't announced any acts but it's completely sold out already. They've had good line ups in the first two years but it's still a massive gamble to be blindly buying a ticket!

Just came back from snowbombing which was pretty immense!

 

Got Reading later in the summer, and should be near Hungary mid summer so probably do Ozura as I've always wanted to do a new age/psy trance thing.

Kendal Calling should be very busy this year.

The Wickerman Festival is usually held on the same weekend but they are not having one this year following the death of one of the festival founders.
