HarryMonkey Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 It's 3 points per tyre on your licence if you get caught.
PotNoodleTech Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) And up to £2500 fine if the officer who pulls you over refers it for prosecution. Your rear ones are on the way out on the inside of the tread too. You've got some camber/suspension issues on your car which is causing excessive wear on the inside of the tread. I would suggest trying to get the suspension issues fixed or you'll be forever replacing tyres. Edited April 5, 2016 by PotNoodleTech
Patrick Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Yeah and if the track is out (even slightly) it will ruin the next set of tires. You need new rubber and the tracking being done as soon as possible. At the same time is a good idea.
jmak Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I always buy the best tyres I can find based on reviews. Top end tyres even on cheap old cars. Whatever car you have, they're the only thing keeping you on the road and the only thing that makes the brakes work is the friction between the tyres and the road. You get ratings for noise, economy and comfort but the only ones I take account of are braking (especially wet) and cornering limits and aquaplaning resistance. I know it could be a conspiracy to catch mugs with more money than sense, but the difference between cheap and premium is only a couple of tanks of petrol - fairly minor in the context of running a car. Just my thoughts....
timbo343 Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Getting the alphas changed in the morning. I noticed they were down to the canvas at one point on the tyre .
PotNoodleTech Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Keep an eye on it a bit more often timbo my friend as if they were down to canvas, they were probably illegal for the last month+
Andrew_C Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 From 2mm of tread to canvas? Unless the suspension is WAY off, it takes more than a month...
PotNoodleTech Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I think the suspension is waaaay off. But yeh you're probably right
timbo343 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 I hardly use the car, its only mainly used at weekends as i walk to work. I was going to get it sorted just before EDIT2016 in June, im glad i got it sorted now. I can feel a little car spreadsheet coming on now on when i do/have work done to the car.

You can log things like that (and more!) with Fuelly
timbo343 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 So, ive had rear tyres changed today however they have done something to the front ones now which means the steering wheel isnt straight and when it is straight it pulls to the left, its annoying, i like steering wheels to be straight. The fronts/steering was bob on when i left it with them today, grrr!! Its going back to them tomorrow, its the small things in life that make us happy.
timbo343 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 You can log things like that (and more!) with Fuelly I used to have something like this but when my old phone had problems i lost all the data.
timbo343 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 Just to add to this, could a slightly raised dropped kerb cause issues? I think this is where some of the problems are happening. We (like nearly every other driveway) have a dropped kerb for our drive access however i feel the dropped kerb is too high to the point where it feels like a "mini" kerb, lets say there is a noticable bump when driving on or off the drove to the road. Does anyone know if theres a law or regulations on how high dropped kerbs are allowed to be? Most of the dropped kerbs i see are in line with the road. Ours feel like they stick up a couple of inches.

When doing the wheel alignment the steering wheel has to be dead center or else you get symptoms you've described.
ricki Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Note it's easy to get steering wheel slightly turned when aligning done it myself
Patrick Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Agreed, it is also a bit tricky to get the wheel dead centre on some cars, mine is hard and takes a few adjustments.
timbo343 Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 If i knew how to do it, id do ityself on my fiesta.
Patrick Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 You need the equipment anyway, and it's not the kind of gear you keep in your garage at home! Try taking it to a ford garage to track it. I've had better results form reputable dealers than tyre shops. YMMV.

Time to find a new garage mate sound like they are cowboys or let a cowboy on it as someone else said wheel should be dead straight and they have a tool to lock it so seen it done several times including on TV on Wheeler Dealers before so they are doing something wrong.

Something is happening somewhere. I think the wheel is been set as "straight" i do feel a slight play in the rotation of the wheel, like something is fitting into place. Trouble is, i don't want to keep hopping from garage to garage trying to get it right. Ive thought about doing it my self with the blog DIY: Centering the steering wheel after getting an alignment easily!.
