Mirroring desktop from laptop - shrunken display?

I'm trying to mirror a display from a W7 Toshiba Satpro laptop to a 22" external monitor. It works okay but hte display on the monitor isn't exactly mirroring the laptop in as much as it's okay horizontally but squashed vertically?

Have you tried in the monitor settings ? There should be a setting to reset or auto adjust.

Yes thanks @difinity tried that; even tried a different monitor.

On second look it doesn't look to be detecting the display, have you checked the Samsung site for drivers ? Have you tried extending the display to give the monitor a chance to have a different resolution to the laptop.

is it an AMD/ATI Graphics Card? Sometimes these have an "auto scaling" turned on by default in the ATI Catalyst Control Centre Software!

Some graphics drivers have their own control panel too, usually there is an option in there for fit to screen when you have an external display connected.

did you get this sorted? Have had the same sort of problem with a monitor and iwb, turned out the monitor was wide screen so the display looked ok on that but not on the "square" IWB. :/

Nope, not sorted as far as I'm aware. Mind they haven't used it in that mode since the first request to set it up!

Take a look at the Overscan/Underscan options in the GPU's control panel, it might also be forcing the wrong aspect ratio on the display / carrying it over from the laptop's default. There should be an entire section in the control panel for desktop sizing and setting screen borders for additional displays.

 

The default for those laptops is an Intel embedded GPU, take a look at `Scaling` and possibly `Full Screen` option if it's there under General Settings tab. Scaling should let you increase the height and remove the borders. Play around with the options in `Custom Resolutions` this is where you'll find the Underscan changing ability.
