Laptops for Students. What is the best option?

Hi there,

 

 

I am thinking in getting rid of my ICT class because is too small for 30 kids. So the idea is move from desktop to laptops, so that, children will be able to use them in class without the need of going to ICT class.

 

 

My question is. What is the best option? I mean, right now they are using HP 250 G2 and they are fine but they are busting them day by day , so my thinking is to buy laptops more robust, meaning, more durable.

 

 

Any idea? I have heard about Lenovo but any other hint would be appreciated.

Lenovo Business stuff isn't bad at all, but in my experience nothing will stop willful damage if that's the problem. If it's wear and tear, ask to get something like a B50 if you're looking at the budget end. i3 to i5 CPUs, tough chassis, very cheap.

Thanks, the B50 has been my first thought. It looks tougher than my HP's, although as you have said a willful damage won't be prevented.

The choice of laptops available to schools is vast; I don't envy you having to choose!.. Robustness as you point out is key as is upfront cost, ease of repair, cost of spares, and availability of spares; because let's face it - with all the best intentions in the world, laptops are up there, top of the list most likely for things that will break when in a students hands (purely an observation). This is why us UK System Builders experience so much success in the education sector.

Managed properly (both technically, and in the classroom) there's nothing wrong with laptops. Mobile devices are the future but plan your Wireless infrastructure and group policies properly!!!

 

Our kids are assigned specific devices and they hold responsibility for them, once they feel a sense of ownership it's surprising how little damage there is. Our VeryPC netbooks have had a couple of drops (no intended damage) and they survived. Same goes for our iPads with Griffin Survivor cases.
