Mozzy12 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Afternoon EduGeekers, just looking for some advise. We are looking at upgrading / replacing our backup software as we have recently moved over to server 2012r2, which our current backup software (Symantec Backup Exec 2012) does not officially support. However, after getting some quotes in, upgrading to Backup Exec 2014 with necessary licensing (something which our previous network manager was not on top of) looks to be quite pricey! I was wondering what software others are using and whether you are happy with it? Backup Exec works perfectly fine and i get on with it no problem, but the new price may make our business managers head spin. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chuckster Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I'm using BackupAssist. It's dead easy and simple to use. https://www.backupassist.com/backupassist.html 1
mrbios Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/166112-backups-who-how.html quite recent on the same subject, should be of help 1
Mozzy12 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 Thanks for the replies, will check these out!
lmrogers Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Veeam is great, there is also a slightly cheaper alternative called Altaro which seems to be pretty good as well. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Veeam. 60% of the time, it works every time. 1
Mozzy12 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I spoke to sales at Veeam last night and it sounds like exactly what we're looking for. Currently installing the Backup Essentials free trial to give it a test, but unless there is some unforeseen compatibility issue out of the blue, i think we'll go for it!
ITGURU Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Used CA Arcserve for 13 years over several versions to backup to tapes. Just use the basic backup and restore features for day to day file backs etc. Exchange and virtual servers I use the built in Windows Server Backup.
lionsl2005 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 We use Standard Windows server backup to a NAS box. Simple:)
