We're revamping our printing and repro facilities at present (getting rid of horrible desktop printers and replacing with MFDs and managed print). We're not specifically aiming to reduce throughput but that is always a good thing to do if possible, so I was wondering how much your school prints/copies.

To kick this off, we print/copy just over 1 million pages per year, and have 800 students.

Is this high, low or "normal"?

We implemented a managed print system in September. A little bit of resistance from staff at first but all fully on board with it now and they can first hand see the benefits from a financial point of view as well as a safeguarding and confidentiality.

I'd estimate we have more than halved our printing bill and that's with a pretty good forecast of maintaining the same levels until summer.

We are a completely different school and setup from yourselves - SEN school 125 kids 100 (ish) staff and so far we have printed since September:

127,642 pages with an average of around 2000 pages per day printed.

Like I say completely different school to yourselves but hope it gives you an idea.

We already have a print solution here, but it's never really been restricted. Just for monitoring/charging departments currently (will change after Summer)

Had a look this morning on ours and in the last year for 750~ students it was 1.4millllllion (1.1 BW and 300k Colour)

Since 1st July last year (when the new printers went in) we've printed 3,582,775 sheets between 1,992 users, just over 14,200 sheets per day. 3,000,000 has been done by reprographics on behalf of the faculties. The highest individual user is 21,055 sheets and she is a factor of 3 higher than the next highest. The 3.5 million is split roughly 50/50 between printing and copying. I think it's up about 30% over last year, and the year isn't done yet!

Since Sept we have done 1,274,226 pages (copying and print). We have 125 staff and 1200 students. Most of the printing is done in Repro on behalf of Depts.

Could I ask an extension question.... How much does it cost to produce that volume of copy?

i.e paper + toner + amortised maintenance/capital/lease cost

We do 3.2 Million sheets and about £90,000 per annum. However due to the mix of devices and their ages and capacities we could easily do another 1.5 Million for around £15,000.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling even more confident now I don't need to be trying to drive down printing volume, as it seems ours is already comparatively low. In fairness, we are printing much less now we have Google Drive/Classroom and staff iPads.

We have one teacher who was printing out 5,000 page a week since September, now we have shown the reports the printing is less than 1000, we are on target to have save enough already to pay out right for one of the machine we just bought!

Roughly between 5000-7000 pages per day, 8 MFD's across the school and no repro room, admin staff do booklets for teachers or very large jobs. Other than that teachers do all there own, even pupils at the moment, waiting to see what happens when course work is due :)
