SpuffMonkey Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 My olf Hp2600 seems to be failing after repeated rebuilds - anyone recommend a cheapish colour laser for occasional home use - or got one surplus to requirements?? (he said hopefully )
m25man Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Having owned an HP 2600 for what seemed to be eternity (well since XP days) I bought a 476dw MFD when they were bogof, sold one and kept one. Switching to the business inkjet was a bit of a concern at first but the advantages quickly overcame the resistance to change. So I would thoroughly recommend you look at the latest HP Pro Officejets. The 6830 is only £70 inc VAT and £20 gets you a 2yr swap out warranty! The 475dw is too big a proper workgroup machine but 1 year later I'm only halfway through the initial fill ink cartridges. It's made me rethink the laser/ink battle completely.
elsiegee40 Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I have have an HP CP025 for years which has been printing beautifully on empty for about 6 months. I seem to change toner every couple of years. I double installed it so it prints mono by default and the family can switch to colour easily. I wouldn't go back to an inkjet

I went off inkjets cause they kept drying up on me as I don't use the printer a lot - do you not find that they do this anymore?
googlemad Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Dell C1760NW A4 Colour Laser Printer A4 Colour Printer Wireless & Network 1200 x 1200 dpi Resolution 384MHz Processor 128MB Memory USB2.0 High speed Interface 12 ppm Colour 1 Years Warranty(210-41094): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories I bought one of those the other day, not turned up yet but it was attractive to me as it was a)small b)cheap and most importantly c)a full set of replacement compatible toners for around £20. Don't do a lot of printing at home so an inkjet would be useless.

googlemad Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Looks that way! Prestige Cartridge 1250 Toner Cartridge for Dell C1760/C1760nw/C1765 - Assorted Colour (Pack of 4): Amazon.co.uk: Office Products It's LED rather than Laser too so fewer moving parts to bugger up apparently! My last printer was an Epson R220 inkjet absolutely awesome inkjet back in the day just using the compatible inks from the car boot but beyond repair when it finally gave in the ghost!
Oaktech Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Want to give me £50 for a Brother HL4150? It's still under a refurbisher's warranty for another 6 months. I think it needs 2 new toners, but other than that it's good to go!

I would seriously consider that - if you weren't so far away - I'm up in the Midlands - so it would be a bit of a hike to pick it up - cheers though 1
dry Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Saw this on HotUKDeals the other day. May be of interest? Ricoh SPC240DN A4 Colour Laser Printer (Duplex & Ethernet) £39.99 @ Box.co.uk (Direct or £49.99 via Amazon/Tesco/ebay) - Hot UK Deals Toner seems to be cheap if you're prepared to refill the toner cartridges instead of replace.
LeMarchand Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 That looks pretty good - specially the toner price - can that be right?? I got a c1765nfw when eBuyer were knocking them out for £125 (much the same as the 1760 but can scan + fax). Like you, got sick of inkjets drying up. Sees very light use, but still pleased with it 20 months later. Not had to replace any toner yet, but have heard that compatibles can be a PITA (they certainly were on it's Epson predecessor). Apparently Cartridge World might be a better bet for toner - more expensive, but I guess it's easier to get a refund if the the printer won't recognise the toner! Anyway, the printer is probably well worth a look. I'd recommend the 1765, but it's now double the price I paid for it!
SpuffMonkey Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 Thanks for the suggestions - I bought the Ricoh in the end and it arrived yesterday It works fine - but its a crazy world where the entire printer is cheaper than a single toner cartridge! Cheers
