localzuk Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 We have a Behringer Eurorack Pro RX1202FX fault that has developed a fault this morning. Basically, when it is turned on, we get the behaviour shown below in the video. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Or do we just write it off and buy another. mikkydoos Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I presume you've checked for a crackly input lead. I'd pull all the inputs out and try that, if not its probably popped a preamp or something. Is that on the L+R output or specific channels?
localzuk Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 There was nothing but power plugged in. That's immediately on turning on (the lights flickering etc, the background sound is not related).
mikkydoos Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 U haven't got the compressor ramped up all the way have you. Turn all the FX off and see then ? Otherwise I'd say a bad pre-amp or a popped chip somewhere maybe.
localzuk Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 This one doesn't have a compressor that I can see. Can't do anything with the FX - just more flickering. I'm thinking its a dead processor of some form. Oh well, was a cheap mixer bought because it'd be abused.

Behringer equipment which goes wrong is more or less a bin job. If you don't need a rack mixer or can fit a standard mixer on a shelf you could look at the Soundcraft EPM6. For the money these are well built and sound ok. 1

Bin it m8, or local repair shop. You might get a Yamaha or something that'll be a bit better, might last a bit longer. If its gonna be abused go cheapo. You know the score m8.
mikkydoos Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I just remembered ... I had a really nice Focusrite rack channel strip that did a similar thing to this. Its was a capacitor (or small component). I did get it repaired for about 70 quid.

Bin it and get almost any other rack mixer in the world - Focusrite will be lovely, AmericanDJ would do, Alto make one, Cloud do one.

The effects are not of any use. Due to the space we have, it has to be a rack mount unit also. I had an ART FX unit years and years ago. It was rather sh*te. Check out Alesis. I spend at least a couple of hours a day peering through my microscope repairing SMT stuff.

The Alesis is another good unit and does address the eq issue. The Alesis units have been around for a while, I owned the older version a few years back which had the Ipod dock.

There is a Multimix 12 model that has all the inputs you need - those front inputs are shared with Ch 1+2 on the back - no wireless tho'. EDIT... Oh. Oddly, our rx1202fx has decided to give up this week - after standing strong since 2008. I will be on the lookout for a new one... do you still recommend the option you decided to go with? I will be honest, sound equipment is not my forte, but ideally I just want to do a straight swap for a different model. Thanks!
