Smart phone remote control apps and projectors.

Pretty much as title, how do you all deal with this?

 

We've had spates of occurrences for a while now, we find a culprit or two they get punished word gets around and it stops until the next genius works it out and the cycle repeats, but every time it happens we get lots of "urgent" requests to resolve the issue with technology which as far as I'm aware there isn't a solution that's viable.

 

My suggestion of teachers collecting phones at the start of lessons and returning them at the end was obviously laughed out of the room because:

 

Native teacher language : potential damage and responsibility.

Translated to English : it involves actual effort.

(even though there are two schools nearby that I know do this!)

Presume you are talking about android phones with IR blasters on? Some projectors can be remotely managed over an ethernet or wifi connection guess your not talking about this. If this is the case then you can diable remote management but if its by IR blaster then...

 

1. You could cover up the IR receiver and use a serial connection to control the projector. Impractical in most cases.

3. You could try changing the IR codes on the projector. Also impractical in most cases.
   
4. 
   
5. Cover up the IR receiver and jump on a chair to turn it on and off and abandon using the freeze function.

Some projectors have multiple sensors on them, You could try disabling those that point at the students and leave the front one active for the teacher to use. Not foolproof I know, but may reduce the problem.

Also interested to hear responses. We had a digital signage screen at my previous place which would repeatedly get turned off by kids with smart phones.

 

We were close to taking the TV apart and removing the IR receiver in the end, but didn't! I've heard nail varnish works at effectively blocking IR light?

We get this problem all the time with both digital signage and projectors.

 

We've always stuck a strip of plastic over the IR receiver however this then means climbing on a chair to power devices on.

 

Not ideal but the only way to overcome this really.

We cover ours up aswell but instead of a chair we got some long sticks to poke them with

I have tried most of the things mentioned however as you all say they are impractical solutions at best.

 

In the past they have had to download and install an app to do this but I've noticed more and more phones are coming with an app to do this pre installed, I can only see this issue becoming more frequent in the future
