Our guy looked like he was a deaths door for a day ( did not move unless moved ) been fine for 3 month since

( probably a good job as wife’s granddad and my mum have both passed, loosing TUMS would have devastated the kids....)

Sadly one final update she went into total renal failure last night and she's being euthanized this evening.

 

It was very surreal that even after all the vet trips, all the cystitis last night she told us it was time to end it. We found it really odd there was just a shared feeling of "We have to end this now", and after she had her bloods at the vet hospital turns out in the past 48 hours her kidneys have completely failed.

 

She made it to 9 years old, and it 364 days since her sister died. We can't believe the timing.

I am a cat bloke, but have none of my own. Family cats when I lived with my parents, bro and sis cats. Bro-cat died a year or two ago, the sis-cat is living with my sister at the min, 16 y/o and is in ill health (old age). Cuddle her every time I see her, as I know it could possibly be the last time.

It was remarkably quick and peaceful. 1/4 of the drug went in in about 3 seconds and she passed out at that point. Just gentley fell down and death was within a minute after that. She looked bright and happy until she passed out, it was far better than I thought it was going to be.

 

I think the hardest part was the 15 minute wait with her before she was euthanised, its a rather odd feeling to be fussing your pet knowing she'll be dead within minutes. Still fussed all the way to the end and at least she went looking at us quickly. Given her illness there were far, far worse ways to die.

 

Spoke to the vet and we could not have called the timing any better. From the bloods she'd gone from a gentle decline over 6 months, to far worse than normal in the past fortnight, to end of life within 24 hours.

 

It was just hard as mentally she was still very bright, she had that spark of a live animal up until she was injected, but her body had failed drastically in the 18 hours since we took her to the hospital.

 

I'd highly recommend anyone in the future with a euthanisia coming for their pet to stay with them until the actual death. No blood, no pain, no stress just gentle.
