Hi All,

Does anybody know if it is possible to install the Solus Deployment service on an additional computer?

It is on my SIMS server but i would like to give technicians access to it with out them needing to login to the Server. Their network accounts have admin permissions on the local computers so permissions wont be a problem from that part

Many Thanks

Just from observation, each client is registered with and pointing to a single Deployment Server. Therefore I wouldn't have thought it was possible to alternate that based on who needs control at a certain point in time.

Interesting thought though.

You could possibly migrate the DS from your SIMS server over to the Tech PC, then grant yourself remote access to it.

If they just need to deploy updates, could something be achieved using the setup files from the deployment share?

i had the same thinking. would need the DS on a few computers, was hoping there was a way of having a client application which connected to the DS and gave it instructions.

Sounds a bit too much of a good idea ;-)

Hang on a minute....am I in a daze or what.

Maybe that is exactly what you can do - the deployment 'server/database' needs to be on a single PC, but the deployment 'UI'.... can that not be on multiple devices?? I've never tried that.

I'm not in a position to try it, but you could grab the UI setup files to see if it can be pointed towards the deployment server/database...

I was 99.9% sure that SOLUS UI can be put out to multiple machines, at my last school I ran it off my desktop and here one of our technicians runs it from his desktop while the NM has a remote desktop session to run it in.

Awesome, I have emailed our SIMS Support asking for a copy of the setup / for them to do it. will see what happens

The SOLUS3 UI can be installed on additional machines, we have it installed at several schools in this way.

Yup. Sounds like @ninjafish etc are getting a bit muddled up.

It use to be 3 installers - server (s3 deployment service), client (s3 agent - which is actually a s3 service also) and a UI. Every device that has SIMS has the agent\client. You have only 1 server\service and you install the UI on the server and any techy machines (saves you rdp'ing to server). Capita were speaking about having 1 installer which might confuse the whole deployment service \ ui being separate parts - especially when you couldn't deploy s3 ui (ironically) via s3 :(

I logged a case on supportnet and they sent me the link to the install in the end. It has a password so I can't post it here.

I also needed to "Re-Register" Solus when I launched it, which again needed a password. The support person reset it for me and it worked as expected. Cool to get Solus running on my desktop now!

Sounds like you now have two SOLUS3 servers- rather then 1 server and 2 clients ????

If that is correct, that's pretty poor service from Capita!

As far as I know, I just installed the UI on my desktop machine. It required re-registering.

I only installed SOLUS3DeploymentServerUI.exe and entered the password that Capita reset for me.

Solus still works fine on the server, that has the SQL database and solus files on.
