mattx Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Short but rather good article - [ for a Friday ] http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01/21/computer_competence_tests/
Geoff Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Isn't that what the European Computer Driving Licence is for?
mrforgetful Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 You think that's short? phew waaay too many words for a Friday afternoon!
webman Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Yes, I think we do. For example to legally operate an amateur radio you need a licence, and to get a licence you must pass a test. And to drive a car on a public highway ...
Joanne Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 yeah but if people got smart on spyware and stuff... my chocolate supply would run out!
SpuffMonkey Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Yes, I think we do. For example to legally operate an amateur radio you need a licence, and to get a licence you must pass a test. And to drive a car on a public highway ... Now we need one before they can vote!
dhicks Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Do we need computer competence tests? No. User interfaces should be better designed and operating systems should be more robust. -- David Hicks
webman Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 No. User interfaces should be better designed and operating systems should be more robust. Can we do the same with cars then? Eg. driving controls should be better designed and vehicles should be more robust. I'm thinking... single-person zorb-like vehicles with mind-reading direction control
ruggie_uk Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 yeah but if people got smart on spyware and stuff... my chocolate supply would run out! Oh yes, the choccies, the Lions fruit salad and the red wine. It almost makes up for the pay.(almost) They ought to be working on this at school now. Never mind being able to show a powerpoint presentation about your local environment, teach the cherubs how to avoid phishing sites, resist the temptations of free smileys and ringtones and recognise a spam email insisting that you dad who has no pc has sent you an mp3 that he has promised you. Oh, and in the style of the IT crowd - how to turn their computer off and on again.
Joanne Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 i hate the IT crowd!! It angers me. Think it's because it reminds me of work...
