Not at yet but we didn't really get the time we needed with Netsupport's trial to get to know it properly (that's down to us not having time currently, no doubt they'll be happy to let us trial again). We do like Impero though and we've stuck with them through the tough times although cost is still a barrier. We're at the point now where we're happy with Impero's functionality with the latest version, the only downside being the cost. Maybe we'll get a bit more time during Summer to evaluate better.

We've always been happy with Impero's support overall and we're very happy to see the improvements being made in their staffing. We're still more than happy to be a case study for Impero, however in times of increased pressure, stressed staff and stretched budgets, cost may become more of a factor.

Always happy to provide evaluation copies to anyone who wants to see things from a different perspective. Synaethesia, i appreciate you are a loyal Impero user, but the offer always stands if you would like a demo or extended trial of NetSupport. You'll also see over the next few weeks independent reviews have been done of NetSupport DNA by both education ( Teach Secondary) and corporate titles (PC PRO) which were given copies to install and use in anger themselves over a number of days. We hope they will be much more meaningful than us just than telling everyone how great we think we are. Anyway hopefully they will also highlight that just because you have always used one tool, it doesn't mean there isn't a better (and cheaper) alternative.

Out of curiosity what do all the software pricing schemes look like? Just be nice to see the comparison between some.

ABTutor is site license (or per teacher-machine)

Impero is per computer (All machines it's on)

NetSupport?

Any others?

Thanks,

Steve

NetSupport DNA / NetSupport School ( can be purchased separately or as one suite) - is licensed per device the software is installed on. ( Unit costs are cheaper for some platforms iOS, Android, Chrome etc. where there is less supported functionality). Our only exception is our HelpDesk software, which is licensed per Operator and supports unlimited end users.

As promised in my post earlier last week, Teach Secondary have been reviewing NetSupport DNA, and you can now read a copy of their review and concolusion here

Is anyone using LanSchool en-masse? I've just started looking over the documentation, and, whilst it's great they're offering silent installs where we can customise everything, it looks like I'm going to have to maintain an install per-room? This seems like quite the admin overhead, especially considering they only allow integers for their channel numbers, so we'll have to maintain a database of room numbers against channel numbers. Not quite impressed so far...

Also, does anyone actually have "teacher machines" in classrooms any more? All our staff have laptops so take with them room-to-room.

Yes. But you only need to set up a list of numbers against rooms once. You'll have a similar issue when first creating groups in Impero.

I guess it all depends on your naming convention. We use the room number plus a computer number i.e. A5-03, A5-04 etc. so in Impero we just need to add one 'computer' called A5-* and it puts all the computers that have name starting with that in the group. Nice and easy :)

Are your computers called the same in AD, then? We've got automatic naming via a BIOS query for the serial number. Our computers are neatly arranged in AD via a multitude of OUs, but Impero can only deal with one domain, so we can't just go under each one to quickly grab them as it's looking at our staff domain for security.

None - although we (Techs) use VNC to monitor classrooms - any students not working, send a screenshot to the teacher for them to deal with.

Gives them more time to teach the students than controlling there access / monitoring.

When your using VNC do you have the ability to preview multiple/a class of clients in one window? If so what software are you using for this?

Can you give me a rough idea of per device costs for Win 7/10 PCs?

I don't know about the person that you asked but in the distant past, I've used SmartCode VNC Manager for that. There's also iTALC which is to all intents and purposes built on VNC but it's flaky on anything newer than XP.

Thanks Norphy. Yeah I have used iTalc as well, but found the same as yourself and many others regarding using it with Windows 7 etc.
