Open Office documents & Word 2003

Is it possible to open Open Office files in Word 2003. A pupil opened his and it was all characters.

 

Is there a plugin so Word 2003 can open ODF files etc?

Can't you use open office to save the ODF to a word type format by going File --> Save As --> Drop down menu and select Microsoft Word (*.doc) format ?

Kids have been using OO at home, our school machines only have Office 2003 on.

some fomatting can get lost on complicated files.

 

Best bet is to install OpenOffice in school. I see no reason why every school doesn't have this installed.

As Cybernerd said - you can lose more complex formatting... I set up Open Office to save globally in MS formats, so there's no confusion.

I thought that OpenOffice word processor saved files as .doc by default.

@FN-Greatermanchester Nope, .doc is a binary format that has been reverse engineered. Ooo does save to .doc but it isn't perfect because MS keep changing the specification and not telling anyone. They are doing the same with MOOXML alreadyt The default format for Ooo is .odt which is an internationally recognised standard.
