Were moving from cunninghams to a full Biostore system (they already handle the biometric database for the cunninghams, papercut and library systems).

We've had mostly positive experiences with fingerprint scanners, we've use Zirksoftware digital persona readers in the canteen and they need cleaning periodically but otherwise work fine.

@Rob_D - Sorry to bump this old thread but would be interested to know if you went with Fastrak and what your thoughts are a year on? We are looking at alternatives to our current system.

Yeah, we're using Fastrak now.

It's been a bit of a mixed bag.

The POS software was really well received and apart from some odd slowdowns (which we think was to do with our servers.) the onsite component of the system runs fine.

However, we've had a lot of instances of it not syncing students funds properly with Parentpay. Every time this happens one of their techs has to remote in a "wind back time" on the database- or that's what I've been told they do.

They say they're working on fixing the sync problem for the next release.

For the most part their tech support has been prompt and good quality. Apart from in september when their helpdesk appeared to get a bit snowed under so they took a week or so to get back to us.

Thanks for the quick response. Interesting that you say they have syncing problems. Our Primary School use Fastrak for pre-orders and they are having problems where some parents choices do not get synced across to the school. They haven't admitted to us that the issue is with their software and will be fixed on next release. Might have to contact them again.

Plus one for FasTrak here. We moved from Cunninghams last summer and despite some initial teething troubles, mainly caused by them being overstretched at the beginning of the academic year, both the product and the support have been excellent. I'd echo the comment about it looking like a piece of software designed more recently that all of the others too. The tills are far slicker and we have the server side installed on one of our virtual servers rather than an ageing desktop as was the case for so long under the previous regime.

How did the pricing compare?

Same ball park, but cheaper and in my opinion better than NCR. Infinitely better than Cunninghams, which I wouldn't go back to if it was free having seen the light!

you guys know this thread is from 2017, right?

Maybe they're still waiting for that Cunninghams help response.
