It looks like it's a neat system that is an all in one solution ideal for creating a virtualised server environment. Thanks in advance for any comments on this....

We did end up going for the VRTX and are very happy with it. Small footprint, expandable and was notably more cost-effective than the traditional approach. We did have a bit of a mare trying to work out the virtual switch for our VLANs but some things take a bit of time getting your head around when it's something entirely new. 1

Hi Dgsmith thanks for the info... I'm still unsure the Vrtx is the best way to go for me. What sort of setup have you got? (How many blades, memory, storage) (how many VM's and what services are you running including backups etc) There seems to be lots of conflicting reviews available...the system not providing high availability and being a single point of failure etc. being one of the downsides. Going down the virtualized route for me would have being highly available at the top of the list of requirements. Not sure if the cost, ease of management etc at the expense of not being HA would be the right decision for me. Thanks for any input again :-)

You obviously can't have the physical servers (or blades in the vrtx case) physically separate from each other which some may prefer. I may still be going down this route for cost saving if nothing else.

We had a disk failure early one afternoon and a drive was in my hand by 10am the next day and we had a call back that day to check all was well. 1

Hi SHimmer45 Agreed Dells warranty is brilliant its specifically the VRTX system that I'm trying to convince myself is a good move or not?
SHimmer45 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 id be speaking to other users of the setup and speak to Dell / resellers to see if they feel it fits your needs or another server type would be the way to go. (as you have). either way its always good to look at what options you have, id be attempting to see if you can get a demo piece of kit for a period of time and see what you think or get a proper demo if getting a loan unit isnt possible 1

My options are currently a Lenovo-EMC NAS with iscsi, a VRTX, an HP 2400 san, or a Fujitsu Primergy with storage spaces. Interested to read this as the HP has had less than sparkling reviews, and i'm concerned about the scalability of the Fujitsu option
