Dan_G Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Not entirely sure what they're calling themselves these days, but we've been using Promissor for years. I've just tried installing the Administrator program on a PC after setting up the ESM server fine following an upgrade, and am hitting issues. I'm getting the dreaded error "cannot load sitepersistence.dll" on the clients when running the Administrator program. PC is Windows 8.1 Their own technical requirements document states: Enterprise Site Manager (ESM) and Administrator have been tested and are supported on the following operating systems Windows XP Professional Windows 2000 Professional Windows 2003 Server Windows 2000 Server Windows Vista Professional Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate Windows 2008 Server Please note that Promissor test delivery platform does not support Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Therefore we are unable to provide technical support for these operating systems. Adobe: Acrobat reader v9 or 10 (11 is not supported) Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or 9.0 (10 and 11 are not currently supported) (God I hate this software. Why must we go back in time 3 years to be officially supported?!) Now, I know it clearly says there it doesn't work. However, I've successfully had it running on a Server 2012 machine, and a Windows 10 test machine. Surely, it must work on Windows 8.1 too, surely?. Nothing I'm trying is working. Permissions on C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor are fine, the share where the exams are stored is fine, the path to it is correct on the clients. Googling the error just brings up on old thread on here from 2009. In the past, on W7 and XP machines, that error has gone away when the accounts being used are given Full Control over the C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor folder. Just wondering if anyone else has got it running on W8/8.1? Edited January 19, 2016 by 03038372
Dan_G Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 OK, ignore me, fixed it. We use an old script that sets the correct data path in the registry after installation. Of course, since we moved from 32 bit installs to 64, it's in a different place in the registry. Took me a while to spot that, as merging the reg file had just created the correct key but in the wrong place, every time I checked it I was looking at the wrong one. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Computer Adaptive Technologies\CATSitePersistence] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Computer Adaptive Technologies\CATSitePersistence]
deKay Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The joy that is ESM is doing my head in. After a few years of not needing it, and the old server it was on long dead and buried, guess what we've had to install... "Test Center Authentication Failed. Please call Pearson VUE Support." when logging into the server component. Any ideas? I've logged a call, but, you know, it's Pearson VUE Support.

Assuming maybe they've been in touch now, as this was last week? When I moved ours to a different server, they needed to do something at their end. Test Centre authentication was dependant on them having the correct server name, or IP, or something. Can't remember, it was a while ago. I just vaguely remember it being a very quick phone call and it wasn't something I could have done at our end.
Dan_G Posted November 16, 2016 Author Posted November 16, 2016 Strange, they've always been ok with me on the phone, literally call up and they sort it there and then. Having said that, I haven't had to do it for around 18 months, things could have changed. Good luck!
deKay Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Part of the problem is the course we're supposed to be doing isn't in their list of available courses when you click for support, so there's no phone number provided. I'm going another route via the exam board instead.
