Sorted it if anyone ever sees this.... app was trying to use TLS 1.0 (which was disabled).
-
Just to drag up an old thread, I'm trying to get it up and running and the player just refuses to connect - done all the usual firewall check, disable AV, try off site on a non-school device. Pearson support isn't great. I've only ever used the LAN version (POP) with the server-hosted admin dashboard for BTEC exams, but the guidance (that contradicts itself all over the place) suggests we can't use that one for Digital Functional Skills. I've whitelisted these already: btecng.pearson.com 4/16/26 edexcelonline.pearson.com 4/16/26 iam.pearson.com 4/16/26 pearson.com 4/16/26 springboot-prod.identity-prd.pearson.com 4/16/26 springboot-prod.priv.pearsonprd.tech 4/16/26 userportal.pqs.pearsonprd.tech 4/16/26 www.pearson.com 4/16/26 On one guide they state: Whitelist BTECNG.Pearson.com Important: Firewall ports that need to be open 443, 52221 & 52222 On another, it's Your network must allow incoming and outgoing traffic over port 443 to reach our IP / web addresses 159.182.72.158 and https://btecng.pearson.com Important: Firewall port that needs to be open 443 I've done all that, and tried at home too outside of the network with firewall and AV disabled. It's an odd one. It doesn't look like it should need anything special but refuses to connect

Imagine telling someone important they needed a driver upgrade, and accidentally getting Bottas sacked rather than getting a laptop updated

No, sorry, we stopped looking. Our Media dept would rather use years old Serif or Windows Movie Maker rather than switch to something "new and complicated!"
-
We're using Serif MoviePlus. Have been for years, but they've recently discontinued it and abandoned all support, so we're looking for a replacement that's cheap, easy to use, powerful enough for A-Level, and works on Windows. Not an easy combination.

Edexcel Promissor ESM / Pearson Vue Onscreen Testing

Strange, they've always been ok with me on the phone, literally call up and they sort it there and then. Having said that, I haven't had to do it for around 18 months, things could have changed. Good luck! -
Edexcel Promissor ESM / Pearson Vue Onscreen Testing

Assuming maybe they've been in touch now, as this was last week? When I moved ours to a different server, they needed to do something at their end. Test Centre authentication was dependant on them having the correct server name, or IP, or something. Can't remember, it was a while ago. I just vaguely remember it being a very quick phone call and it wasn't something I could have done at our end. -
Check your PMs. They got back to me eventually, but it took them a few days.

Edexcel Promissor ESM / Pearson Vue Onscreen Testing

OK, ignore me, fixed it. We use an old script that sets the correct data path in the registry after installation. Of course, since we moved from 32 bit installs to 64, it's in a different place in the registry. Took me a while to spot that, as merging the reg file had just created the correct key but in the wrong place, every time I checked it I was looking at the wrong one. Not entirely sure what they're calling themselves these days, but we've been using Promissor for years. I've just tried installing the Administrator program on a PC after setting up the ESM server fine following an upgrade, and am hitting issues. I'm getting the dreaded error "cannot load sitepersistence.dll" on the clients when running the Administrator program. PC is Windows 8.1 Their own technical requirements document states: (God I hate this software. Why must we go back in time 3 years to be officially supported?!) Now, I know it clearly says there it doesn't work. However, I've successfully had it running on a Server 2012 machine, and a Windows 10 test machine. Surely, it must work on Windows 8.1 too, surely?. Nothing I'm trying is working. Permissions on C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor are fine, the share where the exams are stored is fine, the path to it is correct on the clients. Googling the error just brings up on old thread on here from 2009. In the past, on W7 and XP machines, that error has gone away when the accounts being used are given Full Control over the C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor folder. Just wondering if anyone else has got it running on W8/8.1?

Bump.... is there anyone out there? Also struggling for LaserCAM drivers... I'm getting nothing back from Techsoft. Anyone still have them?
-
We've had an update from our LEA that matches the above - the 'corrected' files on the DfE site are still wrong, and they've admitted it. DfE are looking into it and will replace them as soon as they can.

I've run into this as well today with our SIMS manager, guessing I'm in the same position as you. The duplicate index we got was 104 - I went as far as opening up the xml in notepad and removing the record with 104 as the ID (turns out it was the last one in the file). That did get rid of it, but then SIMS just gave me another error, something along the lines of a field not being part of a table. We've tried to email their helpdesk but had no confirmation or reply, also tried phoning the only number we could find but the number doesn't appear to work. Last option was to log a call with our LEA helpdesk, hoping they've found a fix. Not heard anything back yet.

Every update.... every PC that needs exams access... first job the day after is reinstall SIMS. Does giving a user local admin rights allow them to successfully upgrade it? (Not that it's an ideal solution by any means...)
