Michael Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Is that per user, or per concurrent user? Makes a big difference between the 2 - £1700 vs £110 as you'd only really buy a suite's worth. I love Minecraft but we aren't going to be paying 1/4 of what we already pay MS extra on top for it. It's per user, or per O365 account basically. Microsoft will probably soon realise why the take up is low if this pricing structure remains.
tmoon-mint Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 The fact that it is chargeable per year is an instant no from me. This licensing model has to change if they want the education edition to be successful.
Joanne Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 How incredibly frustrating. I'd rather pay £10 per user perpetual. I wouldn't want to pay per year unless there were members of staff who were going to use it. Currently there are none.
Max_Power Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 How do you actually go about buying this? Contacted our licence re-seller and they have said "Minecraft isn't available on the OVS-ES. Only Campus at this stage. No confirmed date as to when/if they will added to OVS unfortunately." Was looking at buying it for a set of 30 generic accounts so it can be used in an ICT suites during a club as opposed to buying for every student in school.

Michael Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Just a thought, seeing as it's not included with Redstone 1, will it be included with Redstone 2 I wonder?
Arthur Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 will it be included with Redstone 2 I wonder? I can't see any reason why it would be. What would be the point of selling Minecraft for only 3-4 months?
Michael Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I can't see any reason why it would be. What would be the point of selling Minecraft for only 3-4 months? Included in the sense of 'pre-installed' so all schools have to worry about is subscribing/buying into it.
Arthur Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Included in the sense of 'pre-installed' so all schools have to worry about is subscribing/buying into it. MS aren't a charity. After spending $2.5 billion to buy Minecraft the chances of that happening are almost nonexistent.
Max_Power Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Visit https://education.minecraft.net/get-started/, click "I'm an Administrator", enter the e-mail address of your Office 365 admin account and then follow the instructions. Is that all I need to pay the £3.11 per user or do I need to pay the £17.99 per machine to install it as well?
Michael Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 MS aren't a charity. After spending $2.5 billion to buy Minecraft the chances of that happening are almost nonexistent. I think you're mis-understanding what I'm getting at. Microsoft have Windows 10 Education edition, so it would be appropriate if MinecraftEdu was pre-installed, ready if schools want to buy or subscribe of their choosing. Whether it's installed or not makes no difference, considering it's a web based service, but it would make things more convenient. 1
Arthur Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 I think you're mis-understanding what I'm getting at. Ah. Sorry. It makes sense now. You're right. Including the Minecraft app with the Education edition of Windows 10 definitely makes sense, although some people would no doubt complain about having to remove it.
Michael Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 The only reason I suggest it is because I still can't pre-install it on Redstone 1 then run Sysprep. It will fail, guaranteed everytime.
klop Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 (edited) This is a shame, I wanted to setup just 6 computers for a group work but to have to buy it for all students that might to choose to come along and play it - well that's a no from us. Is it possible to purchase for just some pupils? We're SEN and do not use emails for our pupils - I'm guessing I'd need to setup O365 accounts for those pupils that might want to use Minecraft too? Thanks Edit... would the yearly charge be per academic year, calendar year or our ees agreement? Is the charge via ees or direct chargable to O365 - which we currently pay nothing for! Cheers :-) Edited November 17, 2016 by klop
FragglePete Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Have to agree; it's going to be a nail in the coffin for us too here. We purchased 26 licenses a while back which we use for a Minecraft club at lunch times, etc. Students come and go in the club so per seat works well. But per user, per year???.... errr.... No! Pete
Arthur Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 The latest Microsoft Product Terms document contains an interesting paragraph about licensing Minecraft: EE with EES. It looks like you can buy Minecraft: Education Edition Faculty for all of your staff (FTEs I assume?) and you get the Minecraft app for 'free' for all of the students. AO = Additional Product Organization Wide: The Product is offered as an Additional Product orderable organization-wide. ST = Student Offering: The Product is offered as a Student Offering and must be ordered for the full Student Count.
eean Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Is it possible/legal to just set up 30 generic 'minecraft' o365 accounts and licence it to those, rather than to each student in the entire school?

Joanne Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Right, I'm just messing about with a new image and I'm trying to install Minecraft Education Edition. I have extracted the files from the zip - put them onto C: and now I'm running the bat file as an administrator. I'm getting these errors: 2016-11-30 13:24:44, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to get installed location of package 'Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00_14.0.23816.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe' because it's not staged - CPackageAdapter::DetermineInstalledLocationOnline(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:44, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to determine installed location for package 'Microsoft.MinecraftEducationEdition_0.142.0.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe' and its dependencies - CPackageAdapter::RegisterStagedPackageOnline(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:44, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to get the list of packages to remove - CPackageAdapter::DeregisterMainPackageAndGetDependencyPackages(hr:0x80070002) 2016-11-30 13:24:44, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to deregister main package and19 get its dependent packages - CPackageAdapter::DeregisterPackageOnline(hr:0x80070002) 2016-11-30 13:24:47, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to provision package Microsoft.MinecraftEducationEdition_0.142.0.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe while processing target type = 0 - CDismRequest::RegisterStagedPackagesOnline::::operator ()(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:47, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to register staged packages. - CDismRequest::ProvisionPackagesOnline(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:47, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to provision packages. - CAppxManager::AddAllUserAppxPackage(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:47, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed to add Appx package - CAppxManager::ProcessCommandAddAllUserAppxPackage(hr:0x80004005) 2016-11-30 13:24:47, Error DISM DISM Appx Provider: PID=2992 TID=2692 Failed processing command to add Appx package - CAppxManager::ExecuteCmdLine(hr:0x80004005) Machine is a VM and it is online. Err, OK, way to sound like old man shouting at cloud. Not only that, but out of touch in terms of cost. Books are *expensive*. Especially when you consider they have a relatively short, heh, shelf life.
Arthur Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/01/24/announcing-intune-education-new-windows-10-pcs-school-starting-189/ New Minecraft: Education Edition Update Last year at BETT, we introduced Minecraft: Education Edition to the world. Since then, more than 75,000 students and educators from more than 100 countries have discovered how Minecraft facilitates learning through creation, exploration and teaching. More Teacher Features: Today, we’re excited to launch the latest Minecraft: Education Edition update, offering a number of new features requested by our community, including Global Pause to take a quick break to transition to a new activity, accessibility features like text to speech for in-game chat, an updated user interface for managing in game settings, 256 world height for greater building capabilities, complete gameplay from the first night to The End dimension, and new “Minecraft mobs” and items including igloos and Polar Bears in snowy biomes. Minecraft: Education Edition is available at education.minecraft.net. Expanding the Minecraft Community: I’m also happy to share we are expanding the Minecraft Mentor program to include 60 Global Minecraft Mentors representing 18 countries around the world. Minecraft Mentors are experienced guides to help educators with their Minecraft journey in education. Educators have also been asking for an easier way to upload and share Minecraft worlds with the community. To accommodate this, .mcworld files are now natively supported on the Microsoft docs.com platform, making it easier than ever to get started with Minecraft in the classroom. We are continuing to invest more and more into technology that can help the next generation achieve more. It’s exciting to see the impact technology can have on their learning, the creativity it can inspire, and how it can connect students and educators all over the world. We have much more underway for students and educators and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months. ^ Considering that Microsoft sells ~6,000 Minecraft licenses every day, the number of Education Edition licenses is really low.
Arthur Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) Of course, it only runs on Windows 10 https://education.minecraft.net/support/knowledge-base/installing-minecraft-education-edition-on-macos http://i.imgur.com/NDS6zta.png Edited January 29, 2017 by Arthur
localzuk Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 https://education.minecraft.net/support/knowledge-base/installing-minecraft-education-edition-on-macos Ok. It only runs on Windows 10 and MacOS. It doesn't run on any other Windows version (ie. Windows 7, which the majority of schools use).
