Robot Wars to return

I don't think many of the old robots will do well anymore, unless they're rebuilt. The weights been increased so much again since the original series think Chaos 2 days was 83~ and now it's 110, that's another 27kg of armour/weapons etc to deal with Look at Razor he couldn't even pierce that weird pipe looking one, just put a small dent in it. (can't remember the name but should make sense)

 

(On a side note, not to mention the increased wall sizes aren't exactly helping the flippers look at Behemoth, couldn't do anything against a self righting one basically)

I enjoyed it. I was so disappointed to see Razor go out so early though! As was most of Twitter it seems! I wonder if HypnoDisc and Chaos 2 are coming back. HypnoDisc vs Carbide would be very interesting indeed!

reminded me of my first day in Rhyl High School - the Head of Tech (in the middle of a class) showed me his Robot Wars machine - including flame thrower and massively powerful actuator

 

Now THAT was a way to enthuse a bottom set Year 9 class - not sure about H&S

Thanks for the heads up that the series had started - I watch so little broadcast TV that I hadn't spotted it. Thank goodness for iPlayer.

 

I'm not so sure about the early knockout battles - with 4 in the arena, things can be a little random - but I love the everyone-fights-everyone format that follows. Watching the slow attrition as they try to repair them after each battle is great, and the randomness of one bad fight is reduced.

 

Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Shame about Razor. Probably still the best robot out there but the team are always so arrogant. Win one series and then throw it away by bad driving every other time.

 

I will say that I'd hoped for some more obvious advances, drones that detach and do aerial combat within the arena or something.

 

Having said that, I watched it with my four year old boy, he's already asked when he & I are going to build our own entry.

 

I need a bigger shed...

i dont think projectiles are allowed and id assume flying drones would probably fall under roughly the same category same as you cant just drive in with a bucket of acid and immobilise robots that way lol

Yeah I'm sure projectiles are banned, shame tbough as they now fight inside a bullet proof box. I think they've missed a trick.

bulletproof means it may be bad at dealing with slower impact with high mass though look at car windows you can bounce bricks off them and they stay together but screwdriver in the corner and they disintigrate

Just watched it on iPlayer. It was good, but needed more fighting and less talking. It also missed Craig Charles big kid excitement, he injected the humour into proceedings. It all seemed a little too clinical. Hopefully it'll get better as the show goes on, but I think there's only six episodes this series?

True, but car windows are designed to do exactly that. The combination of bullet proof plastic and steel mesh should be enough to stop anything. Though this is hypothetical really. If they wanted to have flyers in the competition, they'd have just made sure the arena was built with them in mind

Just watched it. Saves watching it on iPlayer. I tell you what though, you don't realise the size of the robots. It's not until they come out of the arena, or are featured at the end when you can compare them in scale to the humans, that their true size is revealed. Whilst they're battling they look tiny, but in fact some of them are massive. I can see why they can lift cars! Edited August 2, 2016 by JonThompson

The celeb special was total garbage, I mean I expected it was going to be poor and it was. The robots were predictable who would win.

 

I did liek the fact it highlighted how difficult the driving of the robots actually is though! That and some of the "celebs" seemingly getting really into wanting to win!

I much preferred BattleBots that was on C5. No over-spec house robots, much bigger fight space and the contestants could adapt their robots. I reckon some of them, would have made mincemeat of all of the UK robots.

to be fair the first fight was a tough call neither were moving and both had been agressive before that. I assume the decision came down to the other robot basically destroying itself (so lack of control)

 

the fight in the video above i think it probably should of gone the other way but again it wasnt like there was a massive difference but they did kind of immobolise cherub but if rules say that dosent count it dosent count

The new season of the (IMO) superior Battlebots started last week on Spike, Wednesdays 20:00. This year flying robots are allowed for the first time.
