University Challenge setup

Hi guys.

 

A student has asked if they can have a "University Challenge" type setup in a few weeks. So two teams on separate tables, where when they press their own individual button the same sound as from the show rings out and possibly even a display of some sort.

 

Any ideas???? Would really appreciate any help Apologies if this is in the wrong section!

if you don't want to spend money you could use two Laptops with a Powerpoint Show running, run a mouse out (or one for each contestant) so they click and it makes a noise and changes the screen.

 

Or a webpage that will only respond to the first laptop that clicks, and a backend to reset/keep score, and a few mice for buzzers.

One day, I'm going to make a proper one. So when "Scumgag College" press their button, one team member lights up, and "Footlights College" are locked out. Bunch of logic gates and relays...

Thank you @smithson83 I've created a PowerPoint like you said where a buzzer noise is activated when you click the mouse, this moves on the screen and plays the noise at the same time. Hopefully with this attached to a monitor and a usb hub with 4 mice attached this should work fine.

We have an annual house quiz, and for that I made a flowol program using a breakout board (can't remember what it's called) with some pressure pads as inputs. Only one team can press at once (it auto resets after a few seconds) and makes a different noise for each team as well as flashing the buzzing house's colour on the screen. It all runs off a laptop which is about as old as Noah's Ark which only sees the light of day for one week each year.

 

If I was to do it today I'd probably do it using a raspberry pi or an arduino and write a program to run it. Probably a pi so it'd be easier to connect to a projector and speakers.

Each year we run a university challenge.

 

We've hired the kit from here and it's relatively cheap plus it comes with scoreboard software.
