Removing XLS Password. Got a good app?

Hi All,

 

Weve got a xls spreadsheet that been password protected but they cant remember it.

Have tried a couple of free brute force apps with no joy.

 

There is a website that removed the password and showed the first line but it costs a huge amount to get the rest.

 

Anyone got any good free apps for breaking this?

Excel - Password Removal

 

 

Create backup of password-protected excel file.

Change the file extension to .zip from .xls.

Now extract the whole content of zip file.

Search for xml format of targeted sheet. You will find it in ‘xl -> worksheets’ directory.

Open the xml file of targeted sheet in xml editor.

Now search for ‘sheetProtection’ word in that xml file and remove it.

Save this edited xml file and replace it with old xml file in zip files.

Now change the extension from .zip to .xls.

 

 

No guarantees that this will work. Found it on the interwebs.

Tried that X-13 ta. Doesnt seem to work for xls files.

 

Managed to get someone with a copy of a password revealer. Worked in about 2 seconds, was a easy password mind.

It was called advanced office password recovery i believe.
