The company we moved away from IT Support (before I started) does this in other schools and believes anything else is a security risk. With the correct management in place on our current setup I cannot see this improving things at all.

Have you pushed them on this? Ask them to state the level of risk, you can then combat this with the level of risk as you're currently set up, if your principal can see sense then they should see that it's not worth the extra hassle.

 

It sounds like the company are creating a problem that doesn't exist in order to come in and 'save the day', at a price of course. Ask them for facts and then tackle them on those individually.

I have but it's like banging your head against a brick wall, I feel the same it's a way for them to make some consultancy money but given the school moved away from them apart from this software I feel the principal should listen more to us than them. I've asked their Director to detail what he sees as an issue so we can go from there.

I know this is adding to an old thread, but this is something I've been tasked to do.

I'm a big fan of not answering other peoples questions. If they have said the school need to do this then they need to do the leg work. Get them to produce a proposal and then discuss the proposal.

I'm ressurecting this thread - great reading the advice here. I'm currently messing around with planning a 2016 domain in case (in case of what? I cannot say). SO I've not got the money to purchase new kit, so I have a server which is running 2016Server and then two W10 machines connected.

 

I have setup AD, DHCP and DNS.

 

That's about it. Next step is to start with GPOs I guess and AD structure.

 

Any websites? Books? Videos? for reference?
