LeMarchand Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Bonus daughter #1 would like to buy prospective son-in-law a set of headphones for Xmas with the above budget. He doesn't treat his equipment well (so she doesn't want to spend £100s). It's to pair with an mp3 player (not sure why not his phone) and I'd say probably not closed cup as he intends on using them whilst walking down the street etc. His musical tastes are varied, but apparently tend towards the "bassy" end of the spectrum. He's quite tall, so probably needs a decent length cord, too. Any recommendations?

jmak Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 My son bought a pair of AKG Y45BTs from Richer Sounds yesterday at £59.95. They sound pretty decent and seem to be the cheapest decent Bluetooth headphones around at the minute. Given the number of cables he breaks the slight extra cost and loss in sound quality is a worthwhile trade off! Also supplied with a cable for when the battery runs out. Otherwise the Y50s (non-Bluetooth) get top reviews at the minute. Always had Sennheisers myself though... 1

I have never been so disappointed with a set of Sennheisers before. I'd avoid. 1

Never used them myself, but they were who I was going to suggest. I've seen nothing but great praise for them - even off one of my friends who is a complete audiophile. 1

halbaradkenafin Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD-220s, cost me about £30 and I've never been disappointed with them. Only downside is the cable is about 2m long but comes with a but of plastic to wrap it round to keep it out of the way. 1
