Hi all

Anyone know how to get win2k3 to dish out time to linux based clients? from what I can tell linux requests on a totally different port

We have a few servers/appliances running linux and it would be nice to get them all sync'd up to the same time source if poss

cheers

could you not get the linux servers to sync with the source that you use for the win2k3 time server?

[i know its not quite the answer but its a idea lol]

Well yeah, but the LEA won't open the port i need outbound.

It's a bit of a nightmare at the min, because some stuff is using kerberos and the mail stuff needs an accurate time otherwise most of the stuff it sends is marked as spam. I've been manually editing the time each week as it's out by a good 10 minutes in some cases.

You can sync to a windows 2003 server with ntpd

For ubuntu:

apt-get install ntp-server

then edit

/etc/ntp.conf and change the server to your windows server.

/etc/init.d/ntp-server restart

wait. Time will sync after a while.

Important note: Your DC *must* be synchronized with an external time source for it to give out time to other clients. Mine are synched to our RBCs time server

Thanks DMcCoy - that's our ubuntu servers sorted, but I have a few appliances that are linux based but you don't get shell access to install these extra packages  Guess I was hoping for something you could bolt onto our Windows DC

Ah well, will have to try and keep pestering the LEA to open some portage  :(
