K.C.Leblanc Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 If your not using it in a production environment any old PC will do. It doesn't need to be a purpose build server. Another option is to use VM Ware, which lets you create virtual PCs on your desktop.

HodgeHi Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 personally i think that the only time there would be an advantage is when you would have tape drives to back up to to practice back up and restore procedures as they would be from start to finish. Also a RAID card in there to give you practice on creating RAIDs and so forth Dual network cards to help practice configuring link aggregated ports /failover. Obviously all this is not cheap. It's what i would be looking at anyway. Best to save your money get 2 cheap machines and try and get the licenses to set up a replicated network. I think thats where the real practice should be as this can make or break an AD network depending on whether it works or not.
