Old server Needed.

Want to buy an old server, to improve my knowledge on windows server2003

Has any one got any links to a good server wich i can buy.

put it on an old machine... you don't need a full on server to run server 2003..

If your not using it in a production environment any old PC will do. It doesn't need to be a purpose build server.

 

Another option is to use VM Ware, which lets you create virtual PCs on your desktop.

Tons on E-bay if you don't want to go down the Virtual route....

Been asked loads of times before, just use any half decent PC and put some more RAM in it

 

If you do buy a server, be careful with your coffee this time

Doing a similar thing, What extra advantages would there be getting an actual server rather than using an old PC?!?

personally i think that the only time there would be an advantage is when you would have tape drives to back up to to practice back up and restore procedures as they would be from start to finish. Also a RAID card in there to give you practice on creating RAIDs and so forth Dual network cards to help practice configuring link aggregated ports /failover.

 

Obviously all this is not cheap.

 

It's what i would be looking at anyway.

 

Best to save your money get 2 cheap machines and try and get the licenses to set up a replicated network. I think thats where the real practice should be as this can make or break an AD network depending on whether it works or not.

I have an old one you could have, a very old Dell, but still worth playing with!
