Acer Aspire keyboard problem

So I have a really frustrating problem. Acer Aspire laptop at home and the keyboard has seemingly lost its mind. Bizarre behaviour also happens in BIOS in that certain key presses are not doing what they should.

 

I have a notepad open and here is what various malfunctioning keys are typing:

 

2 = opens a find box

4= types out time and date

5=65

6=65

7=87

8=87

9=9o

= = does nothing

Backspace = does nothing

'/@= produces 2 '' but only when pressed twice

#=moves cursor up

Enter=moves down but also leaves \ behind

 

Separate numerical keypad does the following

1 = Enter key's usual function

2=as above

3=]

4=nothing

5=nothing

6=]

7= moves up and types -

8 = as 7

9=;

/=nothing

*=*

-=moves up and types -

+=nothing

Enter = moves down text but then goes through it without moving down

 

Sorry for lengthy post but getting ready to throw this out the window. I've checked sticky/toggle keys etc. Fn keys appear to do nothing. On screen keyboard works fine.

Have you tried removing the keyboard and reseating the ribbon cable? One of my schools had some Dells where the connector was a hard metal extrusion from the back of the board, and any sort of sbstantial knock would nseat it from the connector in the main body .

Hi @LeMarchand. Just tried but to no avail! As far as I know theres been n9o physical damage to it. I've checked language settings, etc but all normal . Considered reimaging but seen has it happens in Bios in a similar fashi9on ive held 9off f9or n9ow. the rand9om nines are the issue in acti9on!

 

Sadly no spare external keyb9oards lying around to test with. No idea what going on. in a web browser, hitting the four key opens the address bar.

Update - so for no apparent reason the problem seems to have rectified itself. Mightily confused as I haven't tried anything else after reseating the cable (after which the problem persisted). Anybody else had a similar problem before? Problem was on Acer Aspire V3-571.
