SIMS - Can parents fill an online admissions form to automatically integrate

Hello all

We are looking to speed up the admissions process and make it more efficient. We currently use SIMS and an admin lady to manually enter the data from hand written forms for new parents/students.

Is anyone aware of any SIMS or 3rd party SIMS plugin that would allow us to to automate this process?

Will consider all possibilities as long as it is compatible with SIMS and it can be relied upon.

Thank you

Are you an independent or an academy acting as their own admission authority? Most schools including acadmies get an ATF/CTF from their LA?

We are a local authority school and I can positively state that we wish it was that straight forward.

The CTF we receive from the LA is very sparse compared to the CTF we would get from a previous school. This year we didn't get a CTF at all as the software that they use for producing the CTF didn't work.

It would be immensely helpful if this data could be collected via webform like parent's can update their details on SLG currently.

With half of the details wrong - so we always send out a form in June to all our new admissions asking for fresh data, which is manually compared and updated at the moment.

An import mechanism (or a mechanism for getting data into a CTF format?) from CSV or a DB of some sort would be very useful!

R&A ?

I'm looking at this as well, so excellent timing!

Aside from imports of ATF/CTF - SIMS Registrations & Admissions module - an add on. It let's you manage the whole process including the marketing side, tracking initial enquiries and developing those into applications, give you stats, let you manage selection, I think even record assessments and link to the assessment module.

You can even pipe data in from an online web form. This saves time, but might need inspection to make sure it's clean and valid.

It's worth it if you really want to take charge of the whole process - invaluable for Fees schools. Once you're licensed it, the addition to annual maintenance is trivial.

Hi, we are independent.

Just came across this while browsing their site. Did you know you can import enquiries and applications directly into SIMS? | Capita SIMS Independent

Thanks a lot for finding this

UPDATE -

We have been given some stock code from Capita for us to place on our school website. Parent fills in the form on our school website, an XML is generated our end and we can then upload the XML in to SIMS R&A. We are currently at the stage of submitting the code to our website creator.

Thank you for everyone that helped.

I've found the problem with ATF's are that you often end up duplicating parents who are already in SIMS!

Would you mind sharing this page once it's complete? I'd like to see what the application forms can look like...

I must admit I think it's a shame the data doesn't fire straight into SIMS for your approval - but I suppose it's still quicker than typing it all yourself.

Cheers!

I was looking at doing this too. A CTF is basically an XML file so I was hoping to create a page that we can set up on a kiosk in reception for parents to fill in. Trying to read email addresses etc is terrible! If there is some stock code available for most that would be great, and idea if we can get hold of it? We are a maintained school without R&A.

I would seriously advise folks to avoid in-house development and to buy professional solutions that is being security audited and fully managed. Otherwise you are putting children at risk. Look at the recent VTech hack, i'm sure no-one on here would be foolish enough to create something so insecure, but it is an attack on childrens data - there was no financial data - http://www.edugeek.net/showpost.php?p=1392507

I hope this isn't the start of a new wave of hacks. Its one thing to steal money, its a very below the belt thing to target childrens data.
