Ta, worth a go.

 

Had a blackview one before, top model and it was useless.

Tried a Amazon cheapy and it was excellent but it died after a few years so looking for a new one.

 

They happily take stuff back of its useless to.

dunno why you need a screen anyway - on the rare occasions that you need to see the footage you could have bluetooth transfer to a phone

 

or just take the memory card out and put it in your phone

 

Actually a nice subtle thing mounted in the front grill would be OK

The problem with that is that the lens gets dirty very quickly. At least if they are screen mounted the lens stays clean.

Hello. What problems did you have with it? Also which one? I currently have the DR650GW-2CH and am having a few issues myself [emoji20]

Every time you went over 45 the image and sound got so distorted that even huge sign posts were unreadable.

Happens quite often apparently with them according to the car forum I'm on.

 

Cheapy from eBay was just a tube. Had a small screen in which worked well.

 

Not sure if this screen is to big. If it looks like a sat Nav then might pass but going to look

LIDL had a dash cam on sale a while back - it was described as being useable at night under street lights. I notice that this one from ALDI does not mention if it can be used at night under street lights or headlights.

I have a blackvue and have had no issues whatsoever in the 3 years I've had. The best on the market by far.

Although that looks like a good price for a dashcam, I'd probably go for something more discreet.

 

I had a Transcend DP200 in my car for a while thinking the screen would be useful. In the end, I never used the screen and the whole unit just looked bigger than it needed to be because of it. Was quite noticeable from the outside. Suspect the Aldi one would be the same and also quite obvious from the outside.

 

I've just changed it for a Mobius with C2 lens. Video quality is good and because it's so small, it's barely noticeable at all. Once you add the bits up you need, it does make it a bit more expensive than the Aldi one though, but still cheaper than some of the other alternatives.

Yeah got an SD for it 32GB was £6.50 although I used the 16GB one out of my phone. My only gripe is that the G-Sensor causes most of the recordings to be locked, which means I have to clear the SD card every hour of driving. I can change this though... haven't been through the settings yet. It's already paid for itself because I got £40 knocked off the price of my renewal when I put the dashcam on there.

Did you have to phone the insurance company to tell them, no proof required?

They haven't asked for proof, but I'm guessing that if I was involved in an accident they would expect footage and if I didn't provide it they might not pay up...

 

I didn't even think to call them to change my policy when I got it... didn't know they even had the option!

Who is your insurance with, If you don't mind me asking? I have never seen an option for dashcam.

Swiftcover. I always shop around when renewals come through, but they were cheaper than anything else I could find, so second consecutive year with them. I've been with them before and had no complaints (with a claim).

I was reluctant to add my dashcam onto my policy as now and again I forget to plug it in. I've just been shopping round for my renewal and was only asked by 1 insurer if I had one. I did wonder if they would ask about manufacturer though so i'm glad to hear that the other option was there. I have the E-PRANCE G1W :)

Ditto. It's actually not that hard to do, especially for people like us who are quite technical anyway.

 

Just need something like this to piggy back off an existing fuse, and something like this to convert the 12v feed to 5v. A 3m USB cable behind the A-pillar (watch out for airbags) and out behind your mirror and you're done. As a bonus as I think most cams only draw around 1amp, so you're left with 2amps for other devices, in my case, a phone charger, keeping my cigarette lighter socket unused therefore hidden. And because you're not actually cutting into existing wires, you're not making any permanent changes to your car.

 

If you have an auto-dimming mirror, you could also take a feed from there, but that would involve messing with the wiring.
