Hey All,

 

We're looking for easy ways for our staff and students to utilise their OneDrives and OneDrive for Business client is causing all sorts of issues (Missing files, filling up SSD drives etc.) and I was recommended OneDrive mapper by liebensraum -

 

Anyone have any experience of using this script? We are keen to find a solution that works like our users are used to (mapped drives etc.) but are wary as it's a third-party script.

 

Has anyone got any feedback from a working environment before we take the plunge?

I had a play around with it but couldn't get it working due to us using RM Unify, I haven't looked at it again since the last Unify update but I suspect it still won't work due to the way the site is coded (it doesn't correctly detect when you insert text into the login boxes unless you manually type it in).

 

If you don't use a 3rd party redirect (or use one that works properly) then it should work fine. I tested it quickly with a personal OneDrive account and didn't encounter any problems with that side of things.

Yeah, mapping a OneDrive this way isn't exactly feasible if you use small SSD's (120GiB)

 

There is a flaw in the WebDav protocol which will mimic the reported drive size and free space of the C: drive. See the attached screenshot.

 

This means that when you add files to your O: drive, the C: drive free space goes down by the same amount. This doesn't seem to be a visual bug, as Windows really thinks there isn't any free space and starts throwing out errors.

that's interesting Skell, so in theory it just does the same as the official OneDrive app, fills up the HDD

 

Is that something that can be avoided or bypassed? we have users with 120GB SSD's and over 1TB cloud storage. This is a bit of a big flaw by Microsoft, until the new OneDrive app fixes all our issues (We hope)

Don't get me started on Microsofts flawed implementation of OneDrive.

 

Not everyone wants to sync data from one place to another. We would love to use it just as online storage - another mapped drive. We haven't found a way around it, and to be honest, I don't think we will.

 

Having 1TiB of storage seems like a great idea, but if we can't use it in a way that suits us, its useless

@Warwick_Tech really glad I spotted this, been testing iamcloud recently and just did the same test and "lost" the 100MB of C: drive space I used for the upload. Not a problem on my machine with a 250GB SSD but will cause major issues on our older desktops. Is there any workaround to get the space back?

@gshaw, out of interest, do you get the space back if the drive is unmapped and remapped... I'm planning on looking at iamcloud, but if there's an issue with webdav implementation, no point in even contemplating

@Willott just found this via Google, running a clear cache script as a Shutdown script in GPO may do the trick...

Cool - Might set it as a scheduled task on RDSH, that may fill quite quickly if we have multiple users using mapped drives...

I raised it with iamcloud as well so hopefully they can add this fix into their Cloud Drive Mapper tool as well

iamcloud have just released a new version of their CDM.

This was released a few weeks ago.

The major parts of the version I've been told about is to fix a SSO problem with the Mapper failing to authenticate sometimes.

Yes we have seen improved SSO with the client but didn't know if there were other fixes

Spoke with one of the techs from iamcloud last week, they're looking to add auto-cleanup to the CDM client but in the meantime this as a logoff \ shutdown script is the workaround:

Agreed this will be great once they sort the kinks out, like having to manually 'Free up space'. I have looked for reg entries and scripts to see if this can be done on log off, but not had any joy yet!

After waiting ages for files on demand it doesn't work the way we would all like it to - You still have to sync and it will automatically download files you click on, but you have to manually remember to send them back to the cloud with a right-click or they stay on the HDD - Not ideal for students and staff who are not all tech savvy.

 

Come on Microsoft, just map them like old fashioned drive maps(!)

You mean they sync, but they're not deleted from your local disk? Only people with shared computers would want that, and wouldn't they be using OneDriveForBusiness?

I think the main issue is the one that it wont auto remove from local, you have to manually do this, there is no option to 'Free up space' on the local machine on logoff etc.

Really annoying to say the least, I have looked through the reg but can not find anything that relates to that command on the right click of the onedrive in explorer. I have also checked the latest ADMX files and there is nothing there either.
