Can't get sound from Internet to record on Audacity or other such like

My IT Teacher is trying to get his class to record and work with sound currently. Unfortunately they get a message

'Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device settings and the project sample rate.'

Googling this I found:

Audacity error while opening sound device when recording they talk about a resolution in the Sound Recording settings of Showing Disabled Devices and enabling them. Unfortunately there aren't any disabled devices shown. When he tries to record at home with his school laptop it works fine?

I'd check your sound drivers, and which recording devices you can select (right click speaker icon > recording devices). You should have a device called 'stereo mix' which will allow you to record sounds from the PC.

edit didn't notice that you said it works at home.. (doubt the above will help)

Right click volume button in lower right hand taskbar and select recording devices.

Right Click within the devices window and click on show disabled and disconnected devices.

Enable Stereo Mix.

Open audacity, click the box next to the microphone and pick Stereo Mix.

Now try recording.

Thanks @craig2562 that sounded hopeful. However, it comes up no devices installed. He wants to record from the Internet. Odd that with a school laptop he can achieve it at home but not when in school?

Right click volume button in lower right hand taskbar and select recording devices.

Right Click within the devices window and click on show disabled and disconnected devices.

Enable Stereo Mix.

Open audacity, click the box next to the microphone and pick Stereo Mix.

Now try recording.
