How do you defrag your servers?

Do you use the built-in windows application or a third party like defraggler for different servers?

Are you still running server 2008? Everything since then (win7 server onwards) automatically defragments and you shouldn't have to touch it!

I'm running various from 2008r2 to 2012r2. However i still need to defrag as they aren't SSD drives. The scheduled task uses the windows built-in defragger, but wondering if it's worth installing one of the others

I leave the 'Optimize' disk settings on, for the most part. This doesn't aggressively defrag, but keeps the servers running well (mostly 2012 R2 but a couple of 2008 R2 too).

I haven't manually defragged a server since windows 2003

As others have said, Windows does it automatically on standard HDDs. You can see this as part of the optimization task in Task Scheduler.

 

No need for third party solutions.
