Hyper-V Dynamic memory. Release memory for other machines?

Just trying out Dynamic memory on my Hyper-V server.

 

If i open lots of apps it expands the memory nicely. If i close them all down again it doesn't shrink and release the memory back again.

 

Is there a automatic way of doing this.

By default it should release it once it's decided it's not needed (performance counters that run in background).

 

However I've found some things (specifically RDS/Terminal) don't seem to like reducing And obviously things like SQL will eat whatever you have

One thing we've found with Dynamic memory is that it can also give some random performance on VMs, admittedly our VMs are used for limited use and testing stuff as our main infrastructure is on VMware but we've actually started putting machines to fixed memory allocations rather than Dynamic due to this as some of them can run like a bag of spanners from it and require a restart to get back to how they should be. Not had time to dig into if something is wrong but most VMs are 2012 R2 on 2012 R2 Hyper V role so its certainly not an old OS "bug" or "feature", the host is a bit old a G6 HP Server but its got a load of resource so seems puzzling it used to be ok till recent times as well...

Tried it out with two VM's had issues with both so going back to the old way.

Issues gone.

 

Will leave this one for now i think.
