iPad DEP \ Meraki MDM

Hello all,

 

I have set up Apple DEP and Meraki mdm, I have set one device up using DEP just to test before I do the whole 32 of them, but when the ipad is set up it runs through the install and installs a meraki profile but it does not apply restrictions to the ipad

eg: disabling facetime, imessage etc

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you assigned a profile to it? Its a separate step to the assign settings step under DEP.

 

You have to tag the device with a tag, then put that tag in under "Device tags" and apply the scope as you want to under your Settings (profile).

Probably me being stupid but still new to meraki, I have added a tag to the device called test, then I'm stuck from what I'm then meant to do??

The next step is to create profiles and add them and apps to the tags. In MDM>Profiles and MDM>Apps.

Once you've got that setup you can put restrictions and settings into the profile and they'll apply to all devices in that group.

Appears that the profile has been pushed to the device now and the restrictions applied My next problem is installing apps without having a itunes account set up on every iPad

As much as it is a lot of setting up, assigning each iPad it's own email will be your best bet.

You don't need to do this any more - you can assign apps directly to devices via VPP and Meraki now.

Thanks all for the information has really helped!! I will look into the VPP and hopefully get it set up in the next few days and finally have the iPads working haha been giving me a headache for weeks now

They introduced it recently, to go with iOS 9. When you add your VPP app to Meraki, you have the option of assigning it by user, or by device now.

I've not used it myself, but the process is - buy your app via VPP as usual, then when you add it to Meraki, you choose device assignment instead of user assignment. That's about it! There's no account to set up on the iPad.

If the app supports device based licensing. Not all do, but most do. Only takes the developer to tick a box.
